Mike, well done but we need photos of how you got it in. I spent 30mins putting my 9F backhead in and out at an early stage of the build. I now cannot remember how I did it as those minutes were six years ago. HELP!

Well, I tried to do some pictures but I ran out of hands: one to hold the loco; one to hold the backhead and one to hold the phone-camera. I would have ended up dropping something!

Having got the l/h side more or less done...

....time to move onto the r/h side.
On this occasion Ragstone hadn't got the injector controls in stock when I placed my order way back in time, so I've improvised with some EDM Models castings.

At this point I noticed they should be attached to a bracket. So a bit of micro-bodging!

Should do the job!


It needs a bit of refining with some of the exposed metal on the left removing to make it less prominent.

Even the smokebox door needed work!

The little end caps on the handrail are some diddy Prime Miniatures washers.

Propped in place.

I'll get it level when I finally glue it in place.

Not much to report as I've been mainly installing new cupboard doors in our kitchen. I did however manage to sneak in half an hour or so on the Crosti this afternoon.

Just added the smokebox door securing clips and and shed allocation code.

I think there's light at the end of the tunnel. The pile of Ragstone parts is diminishing and I'm also improvising some of the plumbing/operating linkages from bits and pieces.





I now need to assemble this little pile of goodies.

Took me quite a while to get this far. There's still some more pipes and a bracket to add, but I think I've got the basics done.

It's just as well I'm not working on the real thing. Had I been I think we might have been heading for a boiler explosion if I'd piped the prototype injectors as per my model! Error spotted and corrected. I've added a few more parts.

Bit hard to explain, but hopefully pictures below will show my error.

Anyway, nothing blew up!

Note that I'm definitely not aiming for an 'Evening Star' finish. No polished brass and copper for the Crosti! Hence the all over paint on the injectors.

I've been getting the backhead ready as well.

Paining and weathering still in early stages.

I acquired these dials ages ago...
...but they don't seem to accord with those in the prototype.

.....So, I can either just use whatever dials fit and hope nobody notices they're a bit different or source some different ones. I have also toyed with the idea of popping in some emojis instead!!

Perhaps not quite in accord with the photo (which seems to show a very odd vacuum gauge), I would use dials from the 3rd column for the boiler and valve chest pressure gauges and from the RH column for the brake gauge.
