It's a shame Polsithney wasn't there. Having seen it once, 26 years ago, I was looking forward to seeing it, and it and Heyside were my primary reasons for deciding to make the journey. I enjoyed my visit, and layouts can pull out for all sorts of reasons, but in amongst the platitudes and grumbles, would it have been possible for someone to have let us know that the layout wasn't there?

I think I read a response from David Lane somewhere (maybe RMWEB) that the layout was damaged while being loaded or when being transported to the exhibition, so it was maybe too close to exhibition time to do much about spreading the word.

A brief post on here by one of the crew would have been nice - we had updates on problems with the car park, so it could have gone in there. Using forums to advertise a show is a two-edged sword, and like all freedoms carries with it certain responsibilities.

Shame about the damage, big shame. I hope it can be repaired.

Had a great weekend with my Heyside colleagues. No serious problems to contend with, just the usual dirty wheels, and a bit of CV tweaking. Excellent on-site accommodation, two pleasant evenings at The Bell – good food, good beer & good banter! Railex is always enjoyable – one of the few mixed-gauge shows we attend as spectators.

Great to see & meet several WT-ers including Simon, Heather, Dan, Dave (Daifly), Steph. Also Steph’s dad Brian, Geoff Taylor, Keith Pearson (Lionheart Trains sound-man). Good comments from Barry Norman apparently, and noticed Ian Rathbone eyeing-up some of our stock…..

Here’s to the next one…….but not too soon Richard!

Great picture Tim and thank you very much to all of you for putting on such a superb show with Heyside. Apart from being a very impressive layout, it was also clearly being operated "properly" which makes a huge difference to how any layout is perceived.

I had a phone call from Alan Hall on Friday night with the damage news (trackwork and signal box), As he lived local there might have been a chance that the layout or a part of the layout could have come on Saturday, but I gave Alan the option of sleeping on it (the thought of bringing the layout or not rather than sleeping on the actual layout itself!), should he wish to attend with a damaged layout or not, or fix the damage and bring it next year.

I had no idea if the layout was going to turn up or not on the Saturday morning, and as I did not get back from the show and social night out with the visiting teams until nearly midnight, I only had a small window to post an update on RMWeb on the Sunday morning.

Apparently there was overheard a moan from a punter that there were only 2 O gauge layouts at the show :confused:

Who'd be an exhibition manager?

Probably the same wally who came to NMRA meet at Benson and complained that there were only American layouts on show:))

It was a seriously good model railway show and Heyside is up there with the very best:thumbs:

Thanks again to all involved in organising and exhibiting, it was an absolute corker.

Had a great time at Railex first time ever for me, been to a lot of exhibitions (punter and exhibitor) in my time this one of the best. Had a quick chat to Richard congratulating him on his lovely layout. Not into 2mm fine-scale but thought Fencehouses was awesome. Can't wait till next year but don't know how David is going to better this.

Well planning for next years show is underway, plenty of layouts confirmed already.

If I am to continue to put on the sort of show like Railex 2013 then I would like some feedback on suggestion on what layouts you would like to see in future.

On the 7mm front, John Emerson's "Gifford Street" would be very nice (though I think he may actually have stopped exhibiting it now..!).

In 4mm, Chris Nevard's "Catcott Burtle" is another of my favourites. :thumbs:

Any chance of having the awesome Faringdon (Stephen Williams) back again?

Penpoul and Faringdon came in 2009 I think no problem in having them back in a future year if the owners are willing. Gifford Street is an idea not seen the layout in the flesh, but I will look into it. Clutton was back in 2006 or 07 but thats another posibillity. Even though it have moved from one loft to another and I have seen it a few times North Shields would really be good.

We had Burntisland last year!
I was going to list all the layouts we have had in nine years but it's getting on for 170!

I am always looking for feedback, so if there is anything you want to suggest let me know, what you like and what you don't like as well.
