It just whets the appetite for future MRJs Phil. I can't wait to see the beginning to end article. Maybe I should not poo poo 3d printing. For my part I ordered 5 LBSCR 20 ton ballast wagons - something I had been searching for ages. I was a little underwhelmed with the quality.

I don't want to hijack Gerry's thread, but '3D printing' is a catch phrase that is broader than '4mm model'. The latter includes both S4 and '60s Tri-Ang, and the former is equally diverse. One needs to know what one is buying and to investigate whether it suits.

Very true. I just saw that the product was exactly what I was after, but the product was very lacking in crisp detail. Hopefully I can use them as a basis to add detail to.

I ordered some 1/43rd period tyres to use with some white metal vehicle kits I've had for ages and they are superb - from Modelu - who are obviously well known amongst the model railway fraternity.

I understand the criticisms of some 3-D prints, but I would add my voice in support of the loco bodies etc. produced by Bill Davies ('heraldcoupe'). They are crisp and almost lacking in any evidence that they are actually 3-D prints. He supplies them in a coat of grey primer and I really think that they can be mistaken for high quality plastic injection mouldings.
