After an absence of a few months, some further work has been completed on the layout.

The two storey building by the private siding gate has been replaced by something smaller that better balances the scene. The building in front of the siding end has also been completed and work is underway to complete the older style warehouse buildings behind it and also to complete the over track canopy.

Just caught up to see the location change.
Shame you had to ditch (no pun intended) the sluice - I thought you'd made a terrific job of modelling that particular scene.

It was a shame, but unfortunately due to an unexpected rearrangement of the room, that part of the layout had to be culled to shorten it's overall length. I still have all the parts though, so it may form part of another cameo / diorama in the future.

Small progress update. The fence separating the factory siding from the small general goods yard has been installed.

As yet all the buildings are still loose to allow for additional detailing / finishing / weathering to be carried out on the workbench. As they are completed they will be permanently installed and bedded in.

A look along the line - further groundwork with gerbil bathing sand / fine ash is required.

As one who, of late, has done very little other than scrap existing projects, it is a great pleasure to see your continuing work and excellent modelling gently progress. I look forward to further news as and when.

Thank you Roger.
I must admit my progress is somewhat intermittent as my enthusiasm has peaks and troughs and other things interrupt progress. However the biggest danger to any project is that I see other layout scheme opportunities that divert me and I rush to park / scrap something that is only partly completed.

Just spend an enjoyable few minutes reading through your thread, the layout is looking really good. I also got distracted, looking for a copy of the "Tools" book on your bookshelf in the first picture! Now added to my Ebay basket! Looking forward to seeing the layout how developes.

Thanks Mark,
The "Tools" book was a present from my wife after we had a spirited discussion about the difference between a Bradawl and a Gimlet. Upon reading the relevant sections in the book, it appears that she was right. Plenty of other info in the book including tool history,

Hi Vaughan,
In 50 years of marriage, one thing I've learnt is that wives are usually right, thankfully!
The Tool book looks an interesting read, learning the right tool for the job, and how to sharpen it, something that I am completely hopeless at!

Unfortunately, following a less than satisfactory prognosis for my respiratory condition, my railway modelling is to be permanently curtailed. Despite using a filter mask when modelling and having switched to using only acrylic based paints and low emission adhesives, it seems even these are now proving to be irritants to me.

Therefore there are unlikely to be any further updates to this thread. The half finished layout, along with all the rolling stock are currently being listed for sale on 'a well-known' auction site.

Sorry to hear of your woes.

You/your models might get better home/price/satisfaction selling on here.

Simon, thank you for your suggestion, however I suspect that the Mods may take a dim view if I suddenly list around 80 items including locos / rolling stock on the sale thread. I have added a few books there though.

Much of the equipment is standard RTR OO gauge that as yet had not been worked on, so I suspect may be of limited interest to WT members. If anyone is interested in the layout please PM me, although it would need collecting from the Norfolk / Suffolk border.

Vaughan,

I am so sorry to read of your problem. I know personally only too well the situation in which you find yourself. I trust your models will find a good home and hope that you will be able to continue to enjoy railways.

Kind regards,

Roger.

Vaughan,

please at least be encouraged by my experience.

Some years back, I built an N gauge layout for the kids (now in their twenties) and when they tired of it, I sold it on eBay. It involved a not-very-clandestine meeting in a petrol station near Gatwick airport, from which the new owner was delighted, and the cash was welcome, if not quite sufficient to recoup the investment.

all the best
Simon
