Lametton Halt: A trip down the Looe branch.

Hello everyone,
Here we are again this morning by the lineside. The 10:28 has just arrived at Lametton to pick up a couple of passengers for Looe.

Our photographer stands by the bridge crossing the old canal, waiting for the "buzz buzz" from the guard and the rasp of the engine and exhaust as the bubblecar moves away.

And then all he can hear is the trickling water of the canal and the birdsong.

Our line side photographer managed to capture the morning good again today, this time in charge of 4401 from St Blazey shed.

Here she is passing by on the run down to Looe with a couple of vans.

On the way back, she'll pause, uncouple and drop off one of the vans in the siding for unloading.

The beauty of our hobby is that things can often be changed on a layout to give variety and a change of scenery (literally!).

This morning, waiting patiently for the 09:35 to Looe is Reggie and his canine companion Trixie. It is a tad showery this morning. Nothing heavy particularly but, you know, a few of those isolated showers knocking around which means a brolly is always handy. This is rural England after all.

And you can tell we're in the countryside as someone has left their bicycle propped up against the lamppost, nipped on an earlier train and will probably be back again before you can say "quick sticks!" Anyway, it's a pretty bike and it's often needed as the villages around here aren't always near to the stations. But that's the Great Western for you...!

Brilliant little layout. Am building a similar layout on same dimensions of Easthope Halt on the Much Wenlock to Craven Arms branch in Shropshire. As your layout a single siding with kick back siding that used to serve lime kilns. Can you tell me is the track Peco bullhead ? Also what length is the halt. Am very lucky the branch was run with 44xx's and three of the new models were 84H Wellington (Salop) locos. Panniers were the other mainstay.

This sounds really great! Yes, the track is Peco Bullhead rail and the halt measures approximately 14 inches.

The main motive power on here is a 44xx as well as a handful of Panniers, a Class 121, a 14xx with autocoach...and finally, a Port of Par tank will occasionally make an appearance on a short china clay working.

Hello everyone,

A series of shunting shots here for a Thursday evening. Our photographer has been out and about again.

Firstly, some telegraph poles were added to the layout earlier this week. Just two of them; one near the halt and the other near the overbridge.

The wagon in question in the one in the siding. It's been there for a few days now and needs collecting. The pannier will do it on the way back up to Liskeard, which is the norm as the siding faces in that direction only.

Ready for uncoupling from the vans.

Before collecting the wagon from the siding. Job done!

Hello everyone,

It's been fairly quiet of recent times down here at Lametton with the usual goings on with branch line life.

However, we have had a new locomotive take up residence on the branch and sees use on small freights.

Here she is:

PXL_20260104_192026860.jpg

I had a delivery over the festive period of one of the Port of Par tanks from Rapido. She's lovely and I opted for the generic unlined dark green variant. She won't be named and will just take up residence somewhere along the branch between Liskeard and Looe, probably Moorswater.

PXL_20260104_192134272.MP.jpg

She's had the usual weathering treatment and I've fitted some of the detailing pack as well as painting up one of Modelu's figures designed for the model. She runs very well and will look the part once I get around to weathering the china clay wagon pack from Accurascale that was delivered last month too.

A little light shunting took place earlier this evening and I forget how diminutive these locomotives are.

And finally, a rare appearance of the operator during shunting...

Hello there,
It's been a little while now since the last posting. Lametton has been used extensively and continues to see much activity during the evenings after work as a tool to unwind and relax.

Some light shunting took place today, in between rain showers in the Lametton area. The lone passenger was wise again to bring his brolly.
