Bit late (as ever) but hope to get to the show tomorrow and look forward to meeting up with a few of you guys  :)

I have just finished my shopping list and made the fatal mistake of adding it all up - I'm off for a lie down  :))

:-[ I'm a bit of a scattergun modeller  ;)
If I'm honest, Kettering isn't far from me and its a chance to pick up a few bits that aren't gauge specific (motor/gearbox from ABC for Gauge 1 Pannier, SR transfers for FYNR tool van plus some general supplies) - but the opportunity to meet up with a few people from here (and other friends from elsewhere) is too good to turn down. That I might get tempted / distracted / come home with unplanned toys is a risk worth taking  ;D

Good day out today. Thanks to John and his good lady for providing the transport and company. And it was nice to meet familiar and new members by the test track. Ross mentioned that he'd like to visit 'the Poachers' one day so if anybody else would like to visit sunny Lincoln one 3rd Sunday then let me know and I'll make arrangements. It's a cracking test track and a good day with plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits and lots of 7mm modellers of all standards,

I trust you have all had an enjoyable, and expensive day.... :))

I went to a local show myself today - the small & friendly, not sky-high-standard of layouts sort of show; a bit of fun. My lad and his mate were allowed to play on the US-outline DCC layout, getting practice in on NCE Powercabs...
..and of course subliminal indoctrination into the Dark Side... 8) ;D

Yep, I had a good day too - just a bit talked out and I didn't get much time away from the stand either.  So I only had a few minutes at lunchtime and didn't quite get a chance to meet all the Thunderers present - it looks like I missed you Phill!

Didn't spend too much either, but I have got my LMS Bo-Bo, so I'm a happy bunny... ;D

Had a cracking day, well worth it  ;D
Was good to meet up with a load of Thunderers (Steph, Phill, Dan, Ross, Col, Mark, John and Rich - think that was everybody) for a chat and put some names to faces. Amazed at the sheer amount of stuff available in 7mm, first time at a dedicated show like that and came away a bit overwhelmed if I'm honest - suffered some brain fade in the afternoon, too much new info to try and soak up  :))

There were some lovely models on display and it was good to be able to 'download' Steph first thing before having a bit of a spree  ::)  Still, came away with everything I went for....

Well recommended

The 'Heyside Group' had a great time at Kettering. The usual traders were there, a very good selection of demonstrators and technical bods, and it was nice to meet Thunderers old and new.

I managed to be in the right place at the right time to pick up a bargain on the bring and buy - an unstarted and complete JLTRT 2F kit, complete with a full set of Slater's wheels for loco and tender for £195, which included some spare components I can use on another Johnson tender refurb.

I was well pleased ;D

The rest of the purchases mostly comprised signal components and point rodding bits and bobs, and 2 ABC motor/gearbox units I had arranged to pick up.

I shall not go to Halifax this year, so Telford next!

I had a great day out (despite the 4 1/2 hour round trip) and it was great to meet up with some fellow Thunderers again.

Although I was actually able to (for a change!), I didn't buy much.  I came away with a service cradle from Parkwood Arts (which I think will actually be very useful when it comes to fitting underframe components, such as brake gear and vacuum cylinders) and a Parkside GWR Mogo (planked version), which will obviously end up in BR bauxite.
I picked this up from a trader for £25, saving over £6 against Parksides RRP.  :)

After much deliberation, I decided I was going to buy a JLTRT Fruit D, only to discover they'd sold out!  Other things I almost came away with were a JLTRT late cab pannier tank, Easybuild Class 121/122 DMU, Peter Clark "Thumper" and a Heljan Hymek in BSYE, for a mere £215 (secondhand of course).  I do want a Hymek eventually, but yesterday just didn't seem the right time to get one, even at that price.  I think my subconscious was telling me I should finish the Western (remember that?  :))), before buying any more hydraulics.  :)

Dan

It was good to meet those Thunderers who were at Kettering yesterday, as Steve says, it's nice to put faces with names you know.
Personaly I didn't spend much on myself , just a Loco's Illustrated no.170, I'd not seen before, LNER Miscellany, which amongst many others has the LNER F3 2-4-2t details and photo's. This being the project following the the EMU I'm working on. This then prompted me to purchase a boiler backhead kit for this loco from Laurie Griffin at the same time as scale7JB was buying one for his G5.
A pleasant day alround and never long enough, well...thats what the missus keeps saying :))

As I said earlier I intended getting a couple of square meters of plasticard & a few bits & pieces, but I ended up picking up a very nicely made up Slaters PMV for less than the kit price , TBH I don't know much about them so could anyone tell me if the ones with these ends made it into the blue era ?

I have started the minefield of reserach for these, all a bit confusing, planked, uneven planked with vents w/o etc. etc.. Paul Bartlet's is a good visual - starting point - reference of course
Already looked on Paul's site & couldn't find any like this one

Nice model
Any clues on the diagram number either in the instructions or on the box?
I can't tell from the photo whether it is even, uneven or ply sided so a bit stuck at the moment - I've got the SR Passenger Van book on the lounge table so if you can give me some clues I'll dig out an answer for you.
Cheers

No instructions I'm afraid Steve, but I can tell you it is even planked & the description on the box says it is a PLV/GUV, so perhaps I am wrong in my assumption that it is a PMV ?. There is a brief  history on the box says they were built between 1919 & the late 1930's & the GUV version  with end doors (this one) was introduced in 1925.
I think I may have found it now on Paul's site under ex-Southern CCT's although the labeling on the van does say PMV ?  http://gallery6801.fotopic.net/p10311979.html
I think I'm getting more confused the more I am finding out..........doh  ;D
