HS4000 Kestrel

After taking a break from Kestral whilst dabbling with a Steve Beattie Class 41. Decided it's about time I concentrated on getting it finished. Body has had a coat of etch primer and Halfords primer filler. Now needs flattening off and parts smoothing out .
The grill was kindly printed by Mickoo of this parish from my 3d drawing. Only placed at the moment.

Hello all,
Nothing much to say apart from Why O Why did B.R. not take this on as a fleet of locos. Sulzer power plant. That would have been odd!!
Just a quick photo of the power plant, All of the things in the photo are gone apart from the road. Yes the traffic island has gone.
Spent about 10 years in the black building, the green doors are for the works railway.

What would they have done with it? In 1968 BR was still fighting the NCB to accept anything larger thah 16 or 21ton mineral wagons and hoppers at many of their loading plants. And still unfitted so restricted to 35mph. There were no Airbraked steel carrying wagons and precious few MGRs etc. OK so 100Ton tank wagons were being produced in decent numbers but where were the sidings and lay by facilities for them? The science that permitted the faster running 4 wheel air braked wagons of the 1970s was only just arriving. Yes Freightliner had begun replacing a lot of the 45mph van and conflat fleet but did that need 4000 hp locos? Aggregate traffic as we see it now hadn't even been dreamt of.

HST showed what could be done to speed up the passenger service, but that was near on a decade later

British Rail HS4000 - Wikipedia - perhaps the most salient point is that it exceeded the weight per axle that BR was hoping for.
