Yes Dave, you are quite correct and they are only a plastic moulding. I have slipped them back into place (there is a small dimple in the footplate that the plastic moulding slips into). No more modelling from me for a few days as I’m driving on the FR to help out over half term.

Its tanks and cab are currently sitting on bogie wagons whilst everything around the boiler is removed for examination by the boiler inspector.

Today’s steed. A gentleman’s light sporting turn today; one trip to Blaenau on James Spooner (and less Welsh liquid sunshine, so what’s not to like?!).

Variety, they say, is the spice of life. My final turn of this visit (and, given the season is nearly over, probably of the year) was a trip to Blaenau followed by a trip to Tanybwlch on David Lloyd George, seen here by the coaling stage at Porthmadog.

Without wishing to decry your excellent work on fitting the ejector pipe and Westinghouse air pump, should there be pipes and hoses on the buffer beams?

Yes, Phil, you are quite correct. I took a conscious decision not to fit them as I use three link couplings and as this is going to be a shunter I find getting the uncoupling hook between the buffers with all the extra pipe work to be something rather more complicated, so decided operation ease trumped visible accuracy there…

A combination of visits to the Uckfield exhibition (where I had a good chat with Rob @Flaxfield) and the Poole exhibition (where I had a good chat with Mike @Quintus) then a trip to see Martin Finney’s magnificent Semley last weekend has spurred me into attempting some more scenery on Elmham Market. It hasn’t really made much progress recently and is getting cluttered up with tools and the like so yesterday and today I have been trying to make amends.
I have been working on the pasture between the railway cutting and the end of the council houses, then started to tackle the gardens around the houses. Still very much work in progress but hopefully the progress is evident. I have managed to plant the Modelu people I painted earlier in the year and, with some tight lens work (not great on a mobile phone!), a few scenarios can be created. I’m planning to make more progress tomorrow so the photos below are just the current state of play…

A trip to see Paul at Alton Models has resulted in some more gardening being achieved. Still very much work in progress but the garden of the rear house is taking shape; I’ve tried to portray Mr and Mrs Skinner as very proud of their well kept garden. By contrast the other back garden will be little more than a field with a goal post, some mud around the goal mouth and a football sitting nearby. A couple of photos show the current state of play…

Whilst waiting for glues to dry in different areas I brought out my F6 and a couple of ex GER 50’ coaches on a local service and took some photos with the phone to see how the railway and train looked in the newly created environment…
