COME AND HAVE SOME FUN IN CREWE…

Sutton’s Locomotive Workshop would like extend an open invitation to a free-to-enter celebratory event marking the imminent arrival of our brand-new Class 25 diesel model. Thank you to customers who have responded to date, allowing us to offer general admission to anybody who is interested. ENTRY IS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

Friday 29th Sept to Sunday 1st Oct, 2023
Bentley Motors ‘Legends’ Centre, Crewe.

We are hosting an informal and relaxed gathering over a long weekend at which we will be displaying our full range of models. It will be a splendid opportunity to put names to faces and chat in person after such an unprecedented period of disruption in the hobby. As well as meeting the SLW team of Philip and Jennie, there will be the chance to learn about project progress and future plans. You can then enjoy the rest of the attractions and wallow in BR nostalgia over a cuppa and a custard cream!

Let’s be brutally honest… you don’t really want to trek to Crewe without seeing some trains running, do you? To make sure everyone goes away happy, we are delighted be able to provide what can only be described as a ‘private viewing’ of Barrowmore MRG’s impressive Mostyn layout. The 30ft by 24ft continuous-run P4 set-up recreates a section of the North Wales main line and provides instant time-travel back to 1977. There will be the chance to get up close and personal with the SLW Type 2s along with newly-completed rolling stock, lengthy train formations and full line-speed running of passenger expresses and Freightliners.

However, Mostyn is not be the only layout attraction. With a nod to the Scottish affiliations of many of our releases, SLW will also be welcoming Mark Tatlow’s fantastic Portchullin, an imaginary station on the edge of Loch Carron during the mid-1970s.

In addition, talented modeller and SLW customer Dave Roome will also be presenting his latest creation, Underhill Yard, an exquisite shunting layout set in the Scottish Highlands during the 1980s. With some marvellous stock, this exhibit is also heavily populated with modified SLW products!

That’s not all... Brian McCulloch (of Braeside Models) will be manning our Dioramas ‘The Works’ & ‘Inverurie’ as well as showing some impressive examples of his architectural modelling prowess. We will also have renumbering, weathering and detailing services on hand from JAVmar Resprays, who will be in attendance with a selection of their fine work.

We are thrilled to be staging this get-together in a true railway ‘capital’. As you may know, Crewe diesel depot is the spiritual home of the Class 24 & 25s, and was home to a large allocation in the 1970s and 1980s.
