Captain Kernow's layouts

Today was a good day for Callow Lane. For the first time since both boards have had their scenery added, buildings fixed down etc., I have been able to put the layout up and test it. Neither board will work electrically on their own, so the full layout has to be put up, in order to run anything. All seemed well and I was pleased.

After further work to complete the scenic details, the main jobs will be to do the backscene and then the fiddle yard and get that connected up and working.

After that, I shall look to getting the signals and level crossing gates motorised.

Another good day at Callow Lane, ostensibly testing various items of stock that have been built or acquired since the layout was last put up.

Here's some footage of my 08 (converted by me in 2004!!) shunting some box vans, bought from the Peter Lawson collection courtesy of Graham Nicholas as OO items and converted to P4, by the simple expedient of removing the OO wheels and substituting P4 ones - no compensation or springing - sacriledge! They do sit four-square on all wheels on a sheet of glass and are mostly whitemetal kits, so are nice and heavy.

Finally, a photo of my Hymek at the level crossing:

I didn't really need to test the Hymek. This fell under the heading of 'playing trains'...

Testing of locos and stock continues.

Some goods stock obtained since the layout was last put up is tested, 'Lord Salisbury' does the honours:

A couple of the more long standing locos were checked to ensure they ran still ran OK.
