Ladder detail, I think this was here in BR (W) days?

Approach track and probably a bit off topic for Steve but included as it's local and Western Region

And finally this little relic

I did also notice that the old steam engine brick work gulleys (washing down any spillages and clinker dropped by arriving locos) at the head of Platform 1 and 2 were still extant and in good order, though I didn't photograph them.

Enjoy

It's nice looking at the pictures of Ranelagh Bridge as it is now and then looking at Martyn's super track work, it's like we are about to restore it back to it's former glory all be it in 7mm

image.jpg A nice delivery from severn mill today. Time to stock up just in case Chris decides to retire.
D806 Cambrian will be a Heljan warship conversion.
A brace of panniers for the empty coaching stock turns and a Collett Auto Tank.
Lastly a new shed code plate for Lightning, she currently has a 86C plate and in her current condition she needs a 88A plate.

I've subscribed to the A4 Magazine kit, she will be built as Mallard but in 1963 condition. In the above film the Railtour finished at Paddington so that's good enough for me.
Although the tender supplied is the wrong one I'm going to swap it for a corridor tender as supplied in the A3 flying scotsman subscription from a few years ago as OzzyO has one of these and would prefer a non corridor tender as he doesn't want to build 4472.
I had a Golden age A4 a few years back that I sold to fund a castle and king. I was a bit skint at the time so if circumstances had been different I would never have sold it.
Here she is after weathering by Fred Lewis

Be prepared for some pain with the Mazak and some fundamental errors with the front doors and rivets, but other than that it's a pretty good basis for a nice model, I only buy parts 1-14, the rest I can make myself ir buy as castings from elsewhere. Once I'm at a happy place with the A3 I'll carry on with my part started one, the other will sit in a box under the bench for the time being and I just missed bidding on two others LOL.

I'm going for the over knee skirt option, a lady should always show good legs! That requires some hefty metal work to make a new footplate and cylinder wrappers.

For tenders I'm going to make my own CAD etches up and have just taken delivery of a GA for the non corridor tender (beaded non corridor, as opposed to streamlined non corridor). A lot of parts are common on the LNER tenders and I want a bow ended corridor for one of my A4s with stainless steel trim (painted over in later years) and a streamlined non corridor.

Very nice model with weathering just how I like it and in my opted time zone of early 60's , it's about time you had some 'real' engines anyway;) shame you had to let it go, I've had to let some of my unbuilt ones go to fund others things and changes in interest, O gauge models seem to hold their price respectably well.

Looking forward to progress shots, will drag mine out tonight and post some on my thread, if I haven't already.

What issues are there with the front doors and rivets ? I suppose we have the option to rectify these mistakes during the build?

Oh and real engines!!!!!! Don't you know I have TWO castles good sir you don't get any Realer than that.

Real = external valvegear, my friend...as you well know.:)

Looks like you and I will be building at about the same pace...assuming you will be doing the build? Which from another place looks like you aren't?
And who nicked the speed plaques off your Mallard?

Ahh Castles, then you are excused LOL, but only Castles mind;) Castles and rebuilt Patriots are probably the best looking 4-6-0's around in my books

Front doors, well the casting is quite crude, the door gaps and superheater header covers have trenches around them, when I looked in mine I found half a regiment of squaddies camped out like something out of the Somme!

The superheater covers I'm replacing with thin 5 thou covers and pressed rivets, they will be slightly oversize to cover the trench but I prefer oversize to moats around them.

Front doors, it's the rivet pattern, I've looked through all my photos and not found one loco from the day they were built to the day they were scraped which matches the rivets and hinges, and again the moats, I'm in two minds what to do here, either a 5 thou cover as above....but they should really be flush (the superheater covers are covers in real life) or fill all the moats and rescribe the joints or open them out and add correct doors that are flush. The last option will give me possibilities to open them up and as I have two...nearly three locos then having one with open front doors would be nice.

For the rivets I've sanded smooth I'll replace with stick on ones, I did toy with scale hardware but drilling the Mazak will be a nightmare with 0.4mm bits, let me get some supper and I'll take some photos of the front area and some compo shots of the real thing and post in my thread so you can make your own choice, you may be happy with what's already there, I wasn't and I suspect from seeing your locos, you won't be either once you know;)

Thankyou that would be great,
Paul will be doing the honours so we would both look into making changes. I have to admit I'm not up on my A4's so all the help is very much appreciated.
