Very chilly outdoors yesterday so I tarted up the goods shed reversing the office and chimney once again and restoring the loading bay at the side.....
.

A partial blow-over with brick colour and added dark bricks revived it's fortunes. No wooden steps to break now.....


After cutting off and reversing the ends etc to make a RH version of Ratio's 'Highley' SB kit, I decided instead to upgrade the existing Intentio 'Barmouth' box with Ratio parts. Roof and platform have already been adapted. (abandoned Highley on left)....

The revitalized Llanfair Road signal box. with new roof, chimney (never had one previously) and planked ends, courtesy Ratio....



Planked ends, finials, old Cambrian style bargeboards, new landing but no entrance vestibule this time. Interior to follow....

At last, it looks likes it's lived in....


Drainpipes now fitted...


Only this part of the layout remains from before, so I can now concentrate on relaying track to the foreshortened 'plan'....

Six new Peco turnouts have gone back down to the revised smaller layout plan...



The cork patch on the left will be land up to rail level when finished.....


All the turnouts have been brought towards the camera so all the sidings are shorter. Excess land on the left shows were a siding once lay...

I only had a RH curved turnout so it was scanned upside down and printed out so I could work things out and position the bridge...



Odd lengths of track used to determine the lengths and appearance of headshunts. Numerous photos were taken for comparison on the PC...


Track joined up and sprayed with Howes Sleeper Grime. 'Land' was cut back for the carriage siding and PW men's hut.....

The revised track lay nearing completion....


The bottom end of the headshunt where few locos tread, so its slightly overgrown. Rain in Wales has this affect....


Carriage siding laid at the back. This is only the basics using ballast and summer & autumn grasses. There isn't much I can do until the ballast can be filed down to represent ground. Also it's too "lawnified" between the tracks at the moment. The PW hut is back in place....


Autumn grass as been used where the embankment was cut back to leave room for the revised carriage siding....

I discovered late in the day that the fine light grey ballast is softer than the other colours and easily grinds down to dust using old files, which is why I have used it for extending the goods yard surface areas. It hadn't been ground down when this photo was taken late afternoon....

The coal yard was weathered today and the yard crane is back in the yard for no other reason than I always liked the look of it here. Cork in the foreground is where the trackside grass is being extended...

I take back my original comments when you first ‘ripped’ up the track work Andy Peters style Larry ……I really have known better that the modifications would have been for the better

Hi Gismo, it was only when scenery reached the 'bend' that I began to have misgivings. I had said earlier I didn't wish to see trains on that sharp curve. Shortening the scenic section and bringing the overbridge position forward looks to have done the trick.

Track was spray weathered this morning and the rails painted with PPC Rusty Rails colour....


This photo has been taken before the overbridge goes in. The carriage siding takes 3 coaches and a loco. Locos will rarely use the full length of the nearer headshunt and so the rails have been left darker...

The main 6 points were brought closer to the station saving around 20 inches, but I think the overall look of the place has been retained. Extra grassland at the bottom of the nearer goods yard. Up to date picture added 24.09.22 .....

Despite the chops and changes you have still managed to keep the same feeling of open space Larry, in fact I would say the layout looks better, and more balanced than ever. Everything sits well and blends seamlessly together, and just looks right to my eye.

Just love your signal box which is a superb piece of modelling, top stuff!

Just caught up, and I think that the less is more approach is a winner, it can be to easy to get carried away.

Thanks for the compliments gents. Shrinkage has definitely removed comparison with Llanfyllin on which Llanfair was initially based. A Large Prairie on two non-corridor coaches pollutes the station area just to give a flavour of operation.....
