Ns Heritage Livery - Lehigh Valley

That's one of the classier looking ones so far IMO. They've all been pretty good though - there's a couple that I won't be able to resist if someone brings them out in model form.

I've been watching the forums as NS have rolled 'em out. I have to admit I like them all (inc. the Interstate one!), but the N&W blue, NKP and Central georgia are my favourites. It's strange how liveries designed around cab units seem to take well on these modern locos.

I'm not too keen on the Pennsy one - I don't like the position of the "Pennsylvania" wording but I admit I can't suggest where they should've put it!

By the way NS are reporting their best ever quarterly results - they must be doing something right!

Best, Pete.

Thank you, a very nice photo. I have never been convinced by the "non-black" colour of bogies and underframe stuff... or does the Dark Side have some special anti-dirt repellant spray?

Please tell me.... what is the rose trellis which surmounts the table deck?

Here's the "Interstate" - NS 8105 - on the turntable at Knoxville.
Looks ultra-modern to me.
It does, obviously a livery that was ahead of it's time, as if I hadn't been told it was a heritage livery, I would have thought it was current. It's certainly striking!

I think it's the full width cabs and the flat sides that does it - the only difference to the E and F Units is that the flat sides are inset, and the nose is a bit squarer :)

Interstate livery is certainly very attractive and works well on that loco.... I still can't get over how big the things are!

Actually any nose shape differences are only on models (at least for the E7 - E9). In theory all the F-units from the FT have the same basic nose shape and panelling as the later 'E's...

Just a shame our guys cannot do this. The closest I've seen is the old style Southern Railway roundel on the electric stock running to Brighton. I bet the old SP Black Widow scheme would look good on the AC44 CWs....mmmm  .

I'm hoping that the BNSF latch onto this success....
Mind you the NS have had the best quarter ever in both earnings and profits and are actually paying out dividends to their shareholders.
That's important because it shows just how much freight traffic there is right now in the USA.

Here's the Heritage NS 8114:

Pretty!

Pete, Well UP have done it haven't they? And now NS, so why not BNSF? I look forward to it happening!

Dave, UP did an SP heritage loco in a hybrid black and sunset livery which looks, frankly, lousy - probably the best example of how not to do a heritage livery. Mind you the SD70ACe is probably one of the least charming locos ever to have turned a wheel.

You have been warned..: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=308078&nseq=53

And what is wrong with that engine in that livery? Striking comes to mind.... just think how bad the loco might look if painted in BLUE and just where would you put the Arrows of Indecision?

Come to think of it... maybe a Class 70 in a heritage livery might be an improvement. Blue anyone? Choice of three... BR Blue era, BR Passenger Blue or LNER Garter Blue.... Sounds like an opportunity for a poll.

It's certainly striking! But the problem is that although it's lettered 'Southern Pacific' it's not actually in an Espee livery. I thought part of the point of the heritage liveries was to actually have a heritage livery applied - not just as an excuse for UP to protect their brands by painting a loco in 'Southern Pacific' livery. Although I do acknowledge that it's this latter reason that's actually encouraging the RR operators to decorate their locos in old liveries - rather than what enthusiasts want.
