Pedant mode on - it's a Union flag NOT a jack - pedant mode off, sorry.
To be really pedantic, it shouldn't be described as a 'flag' when it is painted on a rigid surface as by definition a flag is made of fabric. When the design was introduced in 1606 it was called the British flag, the union name didn't appear until the 1620s. The jack part has naval derivation meaning small. Both Union Flag and Union Jack have been official titles since the beginning of the twentieth century, if not earlier, for the British flag. So my vote would be for describing the painted image of the flag on the side of the 47s as a Union Jack. Not that it really matters.Pedant mode on - it's a Union flag NOT a jack - pedant mode off, sorry.
MickooFWIW, 47 163 initially carried an incorrect Union jack and was hastily repainted, photos of that are quite hard to find .
Also, 47 163 & 164 were the only Stratford 47s ever painted with a silver roof and initially silver water tanks. All other Stratford 47s were painted with light grey roofs as were 163 and 164 later.
I think the silver water tanks were painted black in 78 so technically if modelling 77 they should be silver as should the roof, though some photos suggest the roof was light grey from late 77. If black tanks and grey roof then it'd be 78 onward. I'd have to check my notes when I get home to be more accurate on the dates etc.
