In my local model shop this morning I caught sight of a Heljan Railcar and on a total impulse I thought 'i'll have that' but at the counter I realised it wasnt an AC railcar, damn close run thing that :))

You could always get started on doing Tetbury, ready for when Heljan release the AC railbus later in the year.

The pulling power of these railbuses is said to be quite considerable, someone told me they had 14 MkI's in tow with no problem. That must of been quite a site:eek:

By the time I got home the more rational urge to make one in 1/32 had taken over :))
I didnt know the AC was coming out later, either way the model looked pretty tidy to me.

I remember seeing a micro setup featuring black dog halt with the AC railcar in a mag way back

One of Chris Leigh's, popped up in MRC quite often.

The current 'bus is the Waggonbasher (considerably easier to spell than Waggon und Maschinenbau GmbH:drool: ). If the others turn out as good, I can see a few folk being tempted.

I still have those 7mm drawings of the AC cars unit and did make a start on the body sides but i couldnt get them right would it be poss to laser cut the sides and cab ends from the drawings i know that you mentioned that the drawings might not have been that accurate ?

I actually have a couple of weight diagrams from First Generation railbuses ( Sorry Simon, but Amazon sent me a credit an attempt to pacify me after one of their screw ups) the vehicle is just a brick on wheels, the most tricky thing is the curved window. I suspect an etch is the way to go as the windows are almost flush.

Remind me not to go the the model shop again :)) I couldnt sleep because of a bad cough so I sketched this out.
I was wrong when I called it a brick there are some subtle curves in there, generally steam locos are much easier to draw. It scales out at about 14 inches in 1/32....

Not having enough skill to cut out the window appatures to a good enough standard by free hand was my pitfall but i bet you could zap some sides and ends in a mo hint hint . the plan was to construct a body from 1.5 mm plastikard then laminate a thin sheet of plastikard on top and wrap it around the body ends then mark out the corner windows and cut them out . well that was the plan

the links shows the heljan preproduction model
funny colour gets coat:oops:

I now have quite a few photos of the body, but a bit lacking on underframe details, unfortunately the most accessible one is in Essex, which is a bit too far to travel. On the positive side I found some handy shots for Simons 122.

No, you can change it with a Flick Of The Switch, though you'll have to watch for shorts due to High Voltage.
Tsch, tsch, Adrian: you slipped up there, for what is DCC if not a high-frequency modulated DC command signal imposed over a low frequency AC power supply, providing high quality DC control?

I have started to take a serious look at these, even if i dont build one it will help me get my head around some of the problems to build a Hymek and a 117 :)

Here are a couple of shots of the one stored of the GC6030052482_4e0ab45490_b.jpg

More from Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/w79976/ and there is a lot of information http://www.railcar.co.uk/class/acbus/acbus.htm and pictures here http://www.railcar.co.uk/class/acbus/acbus-works.htm there are also quite a few more dotted around the web

As a possible one off the 'Steph method' might work quite well and I can do all the cutting myself which will keep costs down. These shots of the frame work have been really useful as they show a slight curvature on the sides which I hadnt been able to confirm.

If you are curious about the size of this in 1/32 here is your answer with a 7mm Hymek

The eagle eyed might spot the flush glazing in the Hymek cab

CRW_5126.jpg

Same length as the Hymek but taller and with more volume

The mdf cutout is going to be painted green and recycled as a door sign for one of the boys!
