Longmoor Military Railway

Hi everyone,

I am an enthusiastic OO gauge modeller specialising in South East branch lines and of course The Longmoor Military Railway.
My interest comes from my Grandfather who was chief Designer at Triang Toys (Lines Brothers) who was himself a most artistic and skilled modeller
with a deep interest in Great Western Railway buildings.
My South Eastern interest extends to the Kent and East Sussex Railway, New Romney branch lines and generally disused railways.
I have converted models such as a Push - Pull set from Hornby Maunsell coaches and a E1 0-6-0 from a Triang `Jinty' and I have a lot more lined up.
Anyway as a taster I am in the process of converting a Heljan Class 07 to LMR Ruston 0-6-0 `Hassan' so I will attach a few photos so far.
Haven't quite finished yet - the colours of the transfers need matching, either yellow or off white and pressfix will only do !
Thanks for viewing
Bob

Bob,
I was fortunate to attend the last public open day at Longmoor on 5th July 1969 and photographed HASSAN on that occasion, its here:
Prototype - PhilH's Industrial Railway Photos
Post #25

I believe HASSAN was the only Ruston LSSH out of the 18 supplied to the MoD to be fitted with vacuum brakes and painted blue for working LMR trains.

Thanks for your reply Phil,

You were very lucky to be there, I would have been 14 but I vaguely remember my dad taking us to Frensham Ponds which was nearby and seeing
Railway tracks and level crossings etc !
Yours photos are excellent and my models hope to be accurate as possible.
My final goal is an 8 x 4 ' layout which will incorporate The Great St Trinians train robbery scenes and rolling stock.
I have already designed the layout and have almost all of the track and some buildings and bridges.
Thanks again
Bob

Tim's collection includes the LMR, clearly on one of the last if not the very last day (all the slides are undated) but he concentrated on the ex-BR locos rather than those of the LMR. In fact, bearing in mind the lovely black and white images we've seen from him these slides are not very good. We'll eventually get to them in his thread - they are of historical value but relatively poor quality.

I remember Phil's photos and they are of great quality, so thanks again, Phil. And that's a great prototype on which to base a layout, Bob. All power to your elbow!
