More developments in the motive department.
The crane is almost completely assembled and just needs a bigger hook and some paint!
122685682_362782388262238_9043754493697377954_n.jpg
The hook was the one that came off the Resin Printer first, I'm not sure if it really was my measurements or just set up wrong on the printer but I've already scaled and prepared the next couple of hooks to try in it's place. At this point the chains were just draped over the top.

I still think the chain is a bit long so that will be trimmed a little once I'm 100% happy with the hook. Here you can see the caster's on and the motor assembly mocked in place. I've yet to sort some hand controls for it with a little bit of thin wire to replicate the cables.

Next thing I decided I was going to change was the window frames and as nice as the yellow card ones were I'd thought about breakages and realised with a single piece of perspex behind it there wasn't going to be room for this.
Off to the laser cutter I went armed with the same DFX I'd used for the paper frames but this time with a couple of extra files for "broken panes".
I was quite impressed how well it really turned out and even though the glass and frames are far to think I think for a looking from a distance It'll be fine!

The last thing I deiced after some arty shots was that as I am happy enough with the tin around the edges it's time to get some primer on to ready the frames for assembly and detail painting.
122699335_341973120200103_7553965699296955885_n.jpg
I didn't realise that sharpie or permenent marker didn't like the primer and fought it. Rookie mistake for not cleaning it down properly beforehand. but when the weathering and top coats of paint are on they're bound to cover it being acrylics instead of primer.

Inside the shed a wash of grey. there may be some filler put in here and there to hide the million nails I beat home then cut off. the floor and central support was still drying in the paint shop as I took this photo. they're now sat drying and hardening so I can get ready for the next steps.

A small update on the shed. now that the primer has dried I assembled the shed back together and have place a few scenic items that are still at the office (and not gone home to the paint shop). along with a painted and assembled Gantry crane. It'll still need some dry brushing to mucky it up a bit and make it look well used. I'll just let the images do the talking though!

Enjoy folks. I'm thining I'm not far off the precarious journey of taking it all home and giving it all a good painting. That's when the fun really begins. After all this time building I'll be petrified of messing it up so far into the project.

A little more progress on scenic items...

Some fresh bottles arrived from BOC so the welder can finish up the tipper wagon and get it back out on the lines. It was also close enough to the weekend that the beers were brought in!

It also seems the shed has a stray cat come to be the shed cat.
The gaffer said proudly “every shed needs a cat!”

Well a tiny bit later than expected as I was starting this post the night we all had a little outage, half written post was up and I got a call from home to which I said to dad "watch for an update later, Going to finish it after this call". Whoops!

Never the less. Here we go....
A few attempts to get a Thingiverse finest figure I found hidden in the depth of it's many random items someone's 3D scan of their dad! I didn't think about it properly 1st and 2nd attempt but hit lucky the 3rd time before having a Eureka moment!

The trio where two of them have gone as "far to bleedin' small!" pile. He was soon sent to inspect the shed!

It was after this and when I found a couple more chaps that I suddenly had that moment I thought "ooooooh, Of course. I can just make myself one of them things that make my life easier..." Que the scaling 'jig' for a digital scaling in Cura (the software we use to set up prints)...

This quickly saw the crew printed overnight and some Humbrol paints in the morning got them ready!

Another little update that I managed whilst the site was down. I probably confused a few engineers if they were checking in on the 3d printers over night to find a few rather strange chaps all stood on it....

Once I'd cleaned up the supports they were pretty successful so I can now place a few strategic workers around the workshops.
They also have been given a generous coating of paint which left them working away like this
123514658_657451694944595_5125843719091241255_n.jpg

All of the excitement meant that with the early nights drawing in and getting to work sometimes and it still being dark I could also get some completely dark room photos of the shed in all it's lit glory (so far).

Notice the Gaffer is still mooching around the shed. He's very committed to his job!

Yesterday I had a little play with a £1.50 “tree” from IKEA and butchered the pot to remove the tree as it was far over scale. Next step was simply print a new one and insert the plastic fake soil it came in for aesthetics.
I know some will say it’s too early but I’m rather happy with it.
69BC54A4-A90C-4B64-AC68-BAF6E4AD5029.jpeg
The gaffer quickly said although it was a good placement it was ether move the sand buckets or move the tree!!

this was possibly the compromise but time will tell!

I really have slacked a bit with the shed of late but with a bit of a slump in hobby activities and a little time down the rabbit hole. We’re slowly working on getting my rope to climb out but in the meantime I occasionally get to poke my head out.

I had a little bit of a eureka moment at the weekend when we were decorating the house with the little lady for the 1st time and we got out a cheap Christmas train set my good lady got me from a charity shop for a measly £5. We’d never tested it but decided as my little Scarlett loves trains almost more than I do she’d appreciate me testing it out in her presence.

Armed with a screwdriver, a loop laid on some rather uneven rug surface and 2 AA’s I set to work, moments later it was on the track and we flicked the switch.. with a big smile from both me and Scarlett the little engine burst into life and whizzed round the track at a scale equivalent of around 437mph(approx).
9CA3356B-E3E9-4CBD-B52F-583759FF9220.jpeg
It wasn’t until a couple of laps and I was putting it away with Scarlett handing me the engine in hopes I’ll put it all back to circle her again that I looked at the track with a puzzled look thinking “this looks very O’gauge-ish track!” A quick nip down to the dining room to offer the rails beside my one piece of peco straight.. BINGO! it’s spot on. The radius on the corners are a little tight but, my little diesel can make it round with a light load. (Far to much wheel slip on plastic rails with a heavy load on).

Hopefully this link to a short clip of it With one flat wagon and brake van (that recently rolled off the shelf and needs a small repair).
D95BC6DC-7166-4FDA-8E2B-85754137287B.jpeg
I’ll hopefully get it set up again soon for another test run after I’ve checked everything over as the gears were a little noisy so might need a minor wiggle to mesh better.

Wow. It’s been a while since I’ve updated the thread.
Since the last update I’ve had a play with paint and finally braved putting some colour on the shed.
F27B93B1-0F46-4A4B-B071-9E734575BF3C.jpeg
first a base wash of one green...
E23CECF4-6DC5-45EF-B51A-1B9CA9E9493E.jpeg
then a second for a mixture of layers and colour because an old shed would of had different colours over the years right ;)
The next step was to test out some weathering on an offcut to see what results I could get doing some sponging 1579EA50-0AF8-457F-B3A2-207A8D0B60DA.jpegI was fairly happy with how it looked but had to wait until the shed was dry before applying some rust!

Paint dried it was time to add some rusty spots. (I’ve still to finish the back and other side but got two sides done.

Fast forward a week or so and the chap that makes LocoRemote (WiFi RC for garden railways) that I plan to put in the Gmeinder loco soon released some 3D printable track... well I straight away saw this as a fantastic opportunity to make a pack away layout that I can get out at home and put away after use.

I was a little limited to what rolling stock I had at work on my desk!

so the Gmeinder was centre stage! I keep getting annoyed I’ve not given it much attention of late so it got some attention over Christmas...

Once I’d printed a bit more track I had to bring Mr.Grumpy in to test on it. I quickly discovered it needs a 4wd conversion to get over tight radius curves on the 3D printed track so I’ve got some chain drive to fit soon for both locos.

This was one of the next things released.. a wagon turntable!
Onto the Gmeinder and I took to the same rust effects from the shed but I wanted the old girl to look pre-restoration but functional

spot the extra detail I added to the cab... doesn’t do anything other than go forward and backwards (not linked to a function).

A bit more rust and paint added and I’ve also made a coupling that the locos were fitted with.

Last some arty bits making it a bit more fake diorama on the desk with just finding some stock images of pebbles and grass on the net and printing them...

Not masses to report but I've got a order date set for LocoRemote and done a little more of the rusting to the rear of the Gmeinder Loco. Now thinking about committing to gluing it all together.
140813219_10164545809980576_495707209745886231_n.jpg
4WD has now been fitted and I only needed to make one small trim to the chassis to fit my clumsy fat fingers get to the chain drive. Thankfully all hidden out of sight when on the rails anyway!
140841014_10164545809890576_7028230282296230976_n.jpg
And then propped together...

I have a couple of small details to add to the cab before I'm 100% happy but it's getting close to a point I think I'll be happy and call it done!
