7mm Shaftesbury a new beginning

Hi all,

Happy New Year

After some behind the scene work I have decided to start a layout thread once again called Shaftesbury, some of you may remembered me from before with my previous 7mm build Shaftesbury that sadly had to come to a end due to family issues with this now behind me I can confirm that I will be resurrecting my project with a few adjustments.
I also with a friend have a 4mm layout under construction so progress may be slow!! but this is a shared venture that we only work on when we both have time, so I wanted to have the 7mm layout at my house so I can have the full benefits when at home.

Shaftesbury will once again be set in my favorite era 1986 - 1994 and will feature mainly Network SouthEast scheme rolling stock with the odd BR blue loco's showing up

Shaftesbury will be a smaller set up this time around with the total maximum length of 25 foot so the planning is underway to use the space as best as I can.

Just thought I would share a picture of my 419, this is a Peter Clark's kit, built by Peter Clark this unit is DCC with lights and sound.







This unit is one of many I plan to purchase from Peter Clark, next on my list is a Thumper.

Shaftesbury station building is now complete, the building is loosely based on Epsom Downs a new station located in Surrey, well I say new but this was a rebuilt station by NSE in February 1989 when the old station was demolished to make way for a new housing development hence the station design was based on the new style housing in the area to match in, I felt this would be perfect for my small terminus station and a design not often modeled.


There is still more wok needed like the fantastic NSE branding/signage ect but pleased with the look so far.

Hi all,

I thought I would share some pictures of three JLTRT MK2 Coaches that are being constructed for me.

There will be 1 x TSO 1 x TSOT and 1 x BFK all painted in NSE livery of coarse to get these coaches there is some modifacations needed as the TSOT and BFK do not exsist in the JLTRT MK2 range so below is a few images of work so far.

The NSE livery is applied on the TSO TSOT and BFK ..............

Hi all, anouther update with the MK2 coaches

This coach is unique (as far as I know) as its a major conversion of a JLTRT coach. major surgery of the kit has had to endure, but the outcome is worthy of the extra effort. This is the list of most of the changes made, including parts not in the kit.
1. Both body sides have the window positions changed compared to the BSO sides in the kit.
2. A new compartment interior.
3. The brake van interior shortened.
4. A new roof vent layout.
5. A different lighting layout compared to the TSO and TSOT builds.
6. Change to the wiring layout, so it was hidden.



The van end. BFK 17132 was unusual because it was one of the rare coaches that ran in NSE livery but had a grey roof instead of the standard black.


The lit coach.



The same coach and position. I think this maybe a unique feature? The guards area is lit only using lighting AUX1. This means an ECS train can be run without the rest of the train lit up.

I am really pleased with this coach, so that's all three MK2's completed now what a great build these have been

Superb mate I bet you very happy with them, the MK2D would be a nice addition. Are you having any NSE mk1s done as well or maybe some intercity MK2 s on an inter regional service?

The lit coach.

They look seriously impressive - well done.

The lit coach is a bit like Blackpool illuminations though - will they be toned down? For the photo a tip picked up from Jim S-W, put the camera on a long exposure and turn off the coach light a second into the exposure.

What Adrian said - from what I remember of travelling in these grotty, dirty and draughty coaches (bring on the 159s! ) - they had florescent tubes which were about half as bright as this. The colour isn't too far off though; too much model lighting is too bright and the wrong colour. Similarly, aren't the air pipes on that MLV about three times life size? A pity, since it's otherwise a nice model of an attractive prototype.
