Refining the technique

Further to previous posts, I have been continuing my experiments with the pencils, with the addition of some Vallejo washes and some powders.
My targets were a couple of wagons and an Oxford J27 that had both seen several of my other techniques but with which I still hadn't achieved the overall look I required.IMG20240607231712.jpgIMG20240607231645_01.jpgIMG20240607231809.jpgIMG20240607231728.jpg

It's definitely driving home to me that weathering is a multi-layered process.
At the moment it's certainly taking time to come together but as practice increases and knowledge of the process grows, things do speed up.

Are you using pencil to highlight the same way as dry brushing highlights with Metalcote gunmetal?

You can certainly do that and I do tend to use the graphite tone (and ordinary drawing pencil) in this way, but you can also apply it as spots and filters and with the careful use of a damp brush also facilitate streaking.
