Yes please - especially how to weather Black engines   ... the one I've done was the hardest weathering I've had to do - it was so easy just to end up with a Grey engine :headbang: ....
I second that, either grey or a moving shadow  :headbang:

Here's some progress with the EMU. Chassis's are more or less completed, a few more bits, brake rodding and buffers on the ends of the driving cars ( the centre cars were close coupled )
In the pic's yuo'll see the power car sides converted from BK 3rd's and the centre car sides wating for the bolection mouldings to be sweated in, not forgeting the drop lights and hinges.

I'll probably go to sleep counting this lot, ha ha.
::)      Not forgotten the weathering post, just a matter of time

Mick,
The '68 is my own, built some years ago. Infact it's going to a new home on Friday as I have sold it to one of my customers.
But all is not lost as I have kits for two more, a 69 and a 67, all destined for my future layout " Bow Creek Wharf ".

Bow Creek Wharf, I like the sound of that. What period will it be and well I have lots of questions but summed up.............. Can you tell me all about it please. Its always nice to here what inspires others and motivates them,

Looking forward to the update,

Mick, Bow Creek Wharf is a fictional extension of the old London & Blackwall line that terminated near Brunswick Wharf at Blackwall. I have assumed that the line carried on through Blackwall, curving sharply round East India Docks and into the sort of penninsular of land that Bow Creek works it's way round, terminating in a simple single road platform with a short bay, very similar to Blackwall it's self, or should I say as it was.
You can see the area on the old ordnance survey maps, the main drag was Orchard Place and was surrounded by oil mills and other old industrial warehouses.
The front edge of the layout will be the the barge bank and wharf, with one end based on the old GER pepper warehouses and the other the exchange sidings in front of the station.
I'll upload a plan sometime and all will be revealed, basically the passenger service will be F6's with either a quint-art set or three non-corridors, while goods will in charge of J15, J68, J69 and J67's.
The yard would have J tanks on shunting, while the warehouse and wharf will have a class Y4 0-4-0t and coffee pot.
I'll leave it at that for now, more later. ATB Col.

Col,

The EMU is coming along well, it must be nice to see it really starting to take shape after all the small part fabrication. Bow Creek Wharf sounds very interesting, it would be great to see a plan when you get a chance  I was looking through Part 7 of the 'Green Books' last night and reading up on the A7 as at some point I intend to build one and saw the F3 pictures and wondered how you were getting on with it ??

Best regards Mick

Looks like another excuss for us both to have a day out to York. A morning at the NRM then some good grub and a pint or two. I have vague memory's of seeing the real animal now over fifty years ago. I do have many photo's. Mick.

"and saw the F3 pictures and wondered how you were getting on with it ??"

The F3, Mick, is a set of components still, I have had to concentrate on the emu recently but the F3 will advance through March so there should be something to show later.
Meanwhile I have just finished the roof sections, although they need just a wee bit more refining.
I have used m.d.f. profiled with my fore plane and then finishing with fine sandpaper.

......and a slight diversion that's been coming together over the last few months, inbetween the other projects, is a North Staff's horse box from the D & S kit.
Had to do some work to make sprung axle boxes, note the unusual inside location of the leaf springs, awaiting shackles ( not supplied in the kit! ). loads more detail still to be added.

I just missed one of these on eBay a few days ago it went for £43 I was being a bit tight so I didn't put enough on it :headbang:. I do have a Fourtrack Models S&DR horsebox in the pile though.

Col,

How easy is the MDF to work and does it take paint well? Have you used a router to form the seat backs ? The Horse box looks very nice indeed, how long did these survive, did they last long after grouping ? So many questions  :)) :)) Oh and the final one, how did the February sunday meeting go?

Mick,
MDF is very easy to work, it's a bit dusty but please all ways wear a mask, the damn stuff contains formaldehyde and you don't want that in your system.
It is quite fiberous and tools need to be razor sharp for best results, it also sands very easily.
In this case I have used ordinary hand tools, in the case of the backs, these are made using just a rebate plane and a marking gauge, then sanded.
I clamped a piece of 4mm mdf to the bench, then set the gauge to the depth of the seat back, this is run down the edge of the board a couple of times to put a deep gauge line into the mdf, then I reset the gauge to the depth of the top section of the seat back and regauge again, quite deeply.
Then take the rebate plane, minus it's fence, and place it at an angle to the surface of the board so that the bottom corner of the plane is resting in the gauge line and take a fine shaving off the full length of the board. Turn round and take another pass on the opposite side of the gauge line and you will have a perfectly straight, very shallow 'V' you can then sand the profile of the seat with fine sandpaper. once finished the strip is cut off with a hand saw and the process started all over again, till you have enough material.
Hope that all makes sense, :headbang: :)) if not tell me and I'll post some diagrams

With regards to the horse box, I think some survived into LMS ownership, with oil boxes and improved brakes, don't know if any made BR, I doubt it.
My customer is 1946 LNER, so I think it may well have got through the War.

WMR, Mick, on Sunday was down to experimenting with colours for the the track, staining sleeper etc and rust/dirt on the rails and a lot of talk  :))
