Chris, it may take some time but the results so far are very good

Thanks Tim,

Amazing how time flies by when working on stuff like this. Once everything has hardened off there will be a fair bit of work to blend in all the parts and hide the various joints. It's really starting to become quite a solid lump as all the parts are added.

The canopy ironwork is a bit tricky to get photos of as blessed panniers and coaches and railbuses seem to get in the way.

The snip below should give you an idea of the structural form, and I'd welcome thoughts on the best materials. I'm automatically thinking brass for the main structure as the canopy will need to be removable and will be prone to being knocked when leaning over the layout.

I think I am going to bite the bullet on the windows and place an order with York Model Making. I had about 100 off them for an EM project I was involved in about 15yrs ago, and at the time was impressed with the results. They may have been a bit thick for 4mm but the same materials and tolerances should be better for 7mm.

Bridge view blocker... I could put the prairie tank in the gap between abutments? Is that the sort of thing you were thinking of?

Double slip... The structure seems to work fine with stock not derailing when pushed through on all routes. The wiring seems simple, I have a diagram for that, I'm really puzzled on how to get 4 points blades to move at each end. Would welcome thoughts on 'equslising tiebars', and I will be using Tortoise point motors.

Wiring... Never had a fire, had lots of not working but, that said, I do take quite a neat methodical approach to installation and I only gave about ⅓ left to do based on the plan you sent me years ago.

Point rodding... The push there is that I wanted all the supports and bases in place before ballasting. Much easier that way around.

Many of the remaining tasks will need individual boards taking out of the layout so they can be worked on. I'm thinking of knocking up a stand on casters to aid with this work.
here you go!

Whilst on the subject of coaches I thought it would be a good time to review the stock situation.

Now in reality, the standard coaches running in to the real Bodmin North in my period were Maunsell designed 2-coach "P sets". These comprised of a BCK and BSK pair. I have kits for these from Slaters, and the BSK is substantially complete.

Occasionally, a Bullied SK or SO would be added to boost this consist. But that seemed quite rare.

The above would however be a bit dull, and Pencarrow isn't Bodmin North...

So, in my deranged world Pencarrow was a SR WR service interchange. As such I do have a WR B Set to run with the Prairie tank.

On the SR side, I'd like to ring the changes through time and progress from Maunsell coaches, through a Bulleid set or loose BCK, through to a pair of BR mk1s. Oh and, at the death nell, the AC Railbus.

The only gaps I have left are the Bulleid coach or coaches. I'm trying to decide who produces the best option for these. Any thoughts from the masses appreciated...

The CRT kits look like they build into nice coaches, there is the RTR brass option coming out soon from shamrock trains Bulleid Three-Coach Sets no: 770-793 – Shamrock Trains
For some additional variety the odd Bullied ended up in Maroon after the WR took over operations, I have a nice pic of a STD 4 tank on a two coach train in Cornwall with one of the above and a Thompson coach.

Yes, I've seen a few CRT coaches but can't now remember if it was those ones that looked wrong to me. There was one kit option where the end profile just looked too 'fat' - either not tall enough or too wide. My memory is playing tricks, so I probably need another look at a G0G event.

Those RTR brass coaches look nice, but I either want a loose BCK or a BSK-BCK two coach set. £600 per coach is I think fair for hand made but just shows what value the Dapol / Lionheart mk1s are. I picked up the CK for £169!

I did note last night that there are a few old stock mk1s being offered for £125 and my mind started to wonder.... Take the Dapol MK1, remove the sides and replace with a Bulleid brass side. Minor mods to the roof vents. Remove the MK1 trusses and and the Bulleid truss and battery box locations. Replace the bogie sides with a Bulleid profile. Also some minor mods to the interior too but...

I did a few cut and shut coaches in 4mm, so have 'previous' in this sort of crime. Think i need to look at photos and dimensions and the roof profiles. Seemed a good idea before falling asleep, which probably means it's a non-starter.

Yes, the photo of the maroon Bulleid BCK, std 4 tank and Thompson coach is a cracking photo. Iirc the location is Treneglos embankment on the North Cornwall Railway. It was a consist I never quite got around to replicating in 4mm but the intention was there at one point...
