P4 New Street

I can only echo what others have said. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching New Street inch towards completion, the highlight for me has been the thought and care that's gone into the depiction of those mundane but hugely characteristic everyday objects that don't get much of a look in elsewhere. If you sense a tall specky bloke looking over your shoulder it'll be me checking your workbench pages.

Just an occasional posting
One of the most common questions I get asked when I tell people I am going to model the shopping centre is 'What will we actually see?' So far I have had to try to describe that the intention is to leave off the rear wall of Platform 12 to give the viewer the impression that they are standing on the platform. With work complete on all of the canopies for board three I can now just show you what you will see if you ever come to see New Street at a show somewhere.
This is the view from just under the roof at the Wolverhampton end, looking into the station.
The view from the middle of the platforms looking towards the Wolverhampton end
A few signs of life!
Hopefully these views demonstrate why I felt I have to have the roof on as it just wouldn't be New Street without it.

I absolutely love the last photo with the HST on, if I close my eyes I can hear the noise and smell the exhaust as it starts out and thunders past on the platform. I've always been a steam fan and it's strange how your view changes really..... I'll explain, as a young solider I frequently travelled home to Doncaster and changed here, usually onto some Mk2
Stock with an intercity liveried brush 4 on the front and thought nothing of it, it was the norm, not something to get excited about. In fact back then I only got excited about getting home, catching up with the lads and drinking my body weight in ale
But now, seeing your pictures makes me feel extremely nostalgic, for me this is everything I want to achieve in modelling, a moment in time, a peice of history, well done,

That bottom shot is superb Jim! Like Mick, I can picture the sound and smell just looking at it.
The only thing that gives it away are the slightly chunky panel lines, if it wasn't for those, you'd be extremely hard pressed indeed to tell if it was a model.
Edit - As an aside, I just got my wife to look at the picture and she instantly recognised it as New Street, and I had to point out to her that it was actually a model. Mission accomplished Jim!

More careful examination of those pics would show Jim has played a blinder - the real photo pretending to be a model is the second from last.... now that one of the rattly old Bug IS real...
These shots confirm what every Gricer knew - the best places for spotting were at either end of New St, so I predict that at Shows both ends of the layout will be 10 deep in Punters, but those who stand in the middle will get the best photos....

Oh dear, just seen the notice "out of service". Hmm, maybe Jordan is correct after all.
Jim, what really catches the eye are the pools of light on the platform surface.

Jim this is the first time I have seen it on the Big monitor at home( I could only get it on the mobile) and can I say you have done a brilliant job of catching the atmosphere (o.k. the diesel fumes and draughty interior) just right mate it brings back a lot of fond memories keep it coming mate, "Let the nostalgia flow!".

The roof does just finish off the atmosphere perfectly, having spent many an hour on those platforms waiting for a connection.
As Tim mentioned the lighting is brilliantly executed. So just one question for the moment about the lighting - are they individual LEDs or are you just using daylight through some perspex windows?
