The two halves of the whitemetal boiler need some filling and filing, too.

On my build I described to boiler as "to be generous, a little rough around the edges.".

A great effort it's good kit for the price - I seem to remember having to do quite a bit of work as well to get the brass castings for the springs and axleboxes straight and flat to fit on the chassis.

The one other thing to check is the buffer diameter, the buffers supplied in my kit were far too small in diameter and it makes a huge difference to the character of the loco so I had to turn some new buffers of a more appropriate diameter. Very Little Gravitas Indeed*

Hi @adrian

Thanks for this. I did see your build (much better than mine), and I see what you mean about the buffer heads. Not much I can do about it, sadly. I’m not sure I gave the skills to make new. And i find that I’m not as invested as I should be in putting things right (I like what you’ve done with the drive chain, but the way; I did wonder why it wasn’t possible to put an idler gear in on the chassis - at least on one side..)

I put strengthening bars along the top edge of the cab, to make the two halves of the etches align. I went with both doors open to get around the unequal gaps on either side.

Cheers
