I'm building a model of a quarter of a mile of line at Colchester c1955, in 4mm and found Tim Mills photos interesting and made a couple of comments.

For fun, Tim Mills 1959 photo and my modelling attempt.

Welcome to WT Paul!

Please do share more about your Colchester project. I'm lucky enough to have seen it in the flesh and think it's excellent. I'm sure others would wish to see it too.

Paul.

Wow! Nothing much more to say.

PS. Actually there is. I'm going to send your photo to Tim's wife and family. I've convinced them that this is the right forum for model makers and now you've proven it. (Although your model came first). :)

Hi Paul,

Yes, I would second George’s comments. Photos of your Colchester layout are always great to see! When posting photos, you can see a marker on the top left hand corner of the thumbnail that says ‘full’. Press that as it posts the image into the thread full size, rather than as a thumbnail.

Hi Brian
Already Tim's photos have been of value, as the next stage are the two signal gantries at the Ipswich end of the up platform. I thought the GER gantry went in 1955, but Tim's photo shows it went a little earlier.

Many thanks for making the photos available, and your kind comment.

Hi Paul.

I forwarded your photo to Tim's wife. Her reply is here:

"That is amazing.
What skill.
I am a lover of detail. ❤

It makes me feel sad to think that this should have, perhaps could have?
happened 10 or 20 years ago. When Tim would see it and be part of this group. Who seem to be lovely people from what you have told me.

Thank you so much for sharing these photos.
I shall pass them on to the rest of the family. "

Considering that, when Tim handed these negatives to me his comment was "Most of it's rubbish, you know" he'd have been both amazed and delighted in equal measure. I remain convinced that he did the right thing in wanting to make these available to the model building community. He'd also have been so pleased to have joined the debates about the details.
