Boomers Wood

Cheers Gents :)
Recon the new name 'Boomers Wood' has plenty of scope for innuendos...................not that I would lower myself of course ;):D
I couldn't possibly confirm that was one of the reasons for choosing it :D
Nice weathering Steve  .....what paints have you used ?
Cheap acrylics mainly Phill, I'm still working through my 'pound a pot' stash from about 5 years ago.
The main concrete is a base of sand colour (scrubbed rather than painted on), a light grey fading from top to bottom and a dark grey fading from bottom to top. About 10 mins after the dark grey has been applied I flood each panel with water and use a clean brush in a vertical direction to get a better blend. A black wash goes on afterwards to act as a filter and sit in the crevices. A dusting of light brown weathering powder at the bottom of each panel and leg (they look proper wobbly in that photo) to finish.
The doors and drainpipes are chocolate brown mixed with dark grey. Another black wash after that has dried goes over the top, then just before that dries, I use a moistened brush to blend the the wash and create some variation. The roof is scrubbed in a sand colour again, a bit of dark grey fading from top to bottom, a wash with chocolate brown, another wash with dark brown water colour, then another session with a damp brush to blend it all togther before it dries. Some brown powder at the bottom edges of the roof (brushed upwards) and some black brushed down at the top.
It could still do with a bit of work around the 'damp' patches on the side and a touch of grey to mellow out the line by the drain pipe brackets, I'll probably throw a bit of powder around to sort those out later - got the 'station' building on the bench at the moment though :)

Go on then, someone's got to ask, why "Boomers Wood"?

Not sure why but it makes me think of "Bambi":))

Thumper/Boomer I suppose.

Baby boomers?

Bit late for that I guess.....

Very nice Steve, excellent weathering and as usual brings out all the nice detail, I am so envious of 4mm modellers having these quality kits, I just hope this triggers a requirement desire for 28Ten so he produces a proverder store in 1/32nd!
I do like the fact that you have the full model railway bug, i.e modelling G1,S7 & 4mm, I am desperately trying now to stick to just G1 1/32nd, however I have a Bachmann warship, Heljan hymek & D95xx and a Dapol D63xx to complete someday! However speakiing with Fred yesterday he has now finished the D600`er cab in 1/32nd so perhaps I will never get those 4mm loco`s ever finished.

Not a very exciting story I'm afraid (or based on any attempt at reality  ). I was looking at a map of the S&D route, got distracted by having photographed engines in Bridgewater Yard, then I saw the name Boomer Wood just south of Bridgewater. I liked the sound of it, there is an element of innuendo to keep with the over running theme, it isn't a million miles away from where the S&D ran, so I stuck an S on the end of Boomer and there we have it. Its quite difficult choosing a name for something that was never intended to have one, or have any background story to it at all - but having Project :shit: at an exhibition isn't that good an idea either :D

Anything is possible..... I just need pictures and preferably a drawing, as there might be sales in 7mm.

Cheers Steve :) It has been quite nice to just be able to buy a kit and stick it together and paint it - I don't think it'll be that long before we can have something similar in 1/32, we just need to stop the Guv getting distracted too often :))

Its a full bug at the moment Steve, there are another four (or is it five) scales / gauges to add to that lot! I have another two and a half years of mucking around and trying things out before I pick the direction I want to head off in. Mind you, I'm also aware that I might just keep dabbling in everything :D
You've a good collection of hydraulics there Steve, 4mm is good for just pick up and play (and distractions!). Good news to hear that Fred has sorted the cab on the D600 :)

I have become of the opinion that distraction is good for the soul, dabbling = enthusiasm. I have an n gauge Hymek above the bench..... and mustnt forget the various AFV's :))

Sounds good to me!

Of course on that basis Tim's "Engine Wood" clearly should have been called "Timsbury Bottom" but no amount of effort on my part could persuade him. No change there then:))

The provender store looks really good Steve, I found it to be a frustrating kit to build myself.
You have really captured the look of a typical asbestos roof with patches of moss and weed, top stuff.

Cheers Geoff :) I think the worst bit with the Provender Store was actually joing the two halves together. You build each end up to the doors, but there is no easy way of holding them together to fix in place...I just cut a slab of plasticard and used that as an extra brace / floor :D
Station building has had a bit of paint and some weathering powders brushed on

Need to run over the top with a damp brush now to make it a bit more subtle, a job for tomorrow I think.

After a prolonged period away from modelling due to working abroad, its time to get back on with the layout :) I've only got five weeks until its shown at Shepshed so its going to be a bit of a rush job..

I'd got the first coat of filler on the platform before going away, since then its had two further coats and been sanded down to get to the final surface. A bit of cleaning up of the stray bits of filler that got caught in the brickwork, then a shallow groove was cut in behind the coping stones to make it easier to get a good separation of paint between the them and the platform surface. Its had a coat of primer which will hopefully be dry enough soon to get a coat of paint on the brickwork.

The detachable sections of the main baseboard have had a coat of finishing plaster applied to hide the polystyrene underneath, they will get a rub down tomorrow to smooth off the surface before painting and ground cover goes on.

Time to find the notes I made regarding the point rodding now and start mapping that out.

What sort of filler are you using Steve? On my 1:1 scale Corris carriage I've been mightily impressed by the car body filler that we're using to fill the screw holes and panel joins. If it's thoroughly mixed (not all my colleagues are scrupulous about this ) it sands back an absolute treat.
