They are prepared to sell the castings separately & now after much badgering they might start doing a dedicated detail pack.
They do make a big difference especially on the Hymek.
Odd, I asked if there was a possibility of some separate castings at Telford and was told in no uncertain terms NO in a tone of voice that would do any docker proud.

I'm a customer of JLTRT I've had two castles and a king so I suppose it does help,
If there's enough interest then I'm sure dedicated packs will be made available.
Your right though a lot of the parts are available in the diesel detail pack.

I'm a customer too, class 40 and class 20, didn't help me.

Being mates with the owner might have swayed it for me.
Having said that I've been told that dedicated detailing packs will become available.
Registering an interest might help.
Work on bogie no 3 & 4 will commence shortly.

A 3/4 view this shows how much better the cast springs are and the vastly superior brake cylinders.
That's it for a while, Paul (OzzyO) is drilling out the buffers for me and soldering some wire to the sand pipes.

Perhaps if they made their range of castings available, a bit like Laurie Griffin, and Andy Beaton at Ragstone, only for diesels, they could make more profit and lower the kit prices further, sell a few more etc etc?
I'll contact them and suggest it anyway. In for a penny.
Who will I contact, Pete? Or Laurie?

I got pretty much the same, but without the tone of voice, as it was by Email. It was when I was after bits for my 22, & a magazine article had recomended certain JLTRT bits, but without mentioning the difficulty in obtaining them sans a whole kit.

I think it depends on which quarter the moon is in it's lunar cycle!

It would be better if they sold to all or sold to none, picking and choosing 'elite' customers really isn't good cricket (my personal view). We're all customers (potential and existing) so should all be treated the same, if they want to run a gold member system then reward those they choose with a discount or something, but denying those with 'shallower' pockets really isn't good for those starting out at entry level to the hobby, I.E. those that haven't bought 10 (example) or more JLTRT kits.

Mind, I think in say five years time it'll all be academic as 3D printing will be good enough (it's already good enough for many parts) for people to make their own and bypass JLTRT for detail extras, unless of course you have to have brass parts....which seems to be an 'English' model railway hangup, most other branches in the model world readily accept resin or plastic as detail parts.

So in the spirit of Cyric and Western Thunder, rather than bleat about JLTRT rebuttal of after market parts, I'll just go and make my bloody own  Not quite sure yet what LOL, and, I may be gone some time as I have more important things higher up the food chain ;)

Whilst I do agree with a lot of the above, being personal friends with Pete Waterman has certainly helped me, but at the same time I think that given demand for specific detail packs they will do them, the Hymek being the prime example.
Like I said register your interest and things might move on a little quicker.
There castings are superb so it would benefit everyone if they were available to all.

I like that bit in particular!! :D

Possibly evidence that the HJ Hymek took away sales from JLTRT of their Hymek..? they came out around about the same time, I seem to recall?
I don't mean that in a "yah-boo-sucks to JLTRT" way - just an observation of the effect of model duplication, where one is a higher-price kit and the other a cheaper, but not so well-detailed, R-T-R model.
Is it also possibly a reflection/continuation of what we did in the 80's - bought 'basic' R-T-R 4mm locos and detailed them up to taste? I think it is, and I for a long time have thought it's a market in O yet to be exploited...

Just Like The Real Thing

Here we are, cut from there facebook page,

We at JLTRT, appreciate that not everyone has the time, patience or skills required to build fabulous models from our kits, and so must content themselves with some of the chinese made ready built locos that are available. These invariably have errors and some clumsy detailing. So help is at hand! we will be releasing individual packs of our cast brass, nickel and white metal parts for the popular RTR diesels. These will include buffers seats air pipes and various valves etc. Unfortunately we wont be able to sell any major body parts as the current crop of RTR are basically miles out of scale. But as they say down tesco "every little helps"..

I got a very pleasant reply from Laurie, which explained that yes, they would be doing packs for locos, yes they can supply castings to exisiting customers, but no, he thinks that selling individual castings is a "dead end".

Perhaps someone ought to explain that to Laurie Griffin, Andy Beaton et al?

Anyway, back to the topic........

There we go everyone gets the castings and we are all happy,
Just in case any one is interested I've commissioned Pete Harvey to do some etched timkin covers for the hymek which should be available soon, just another little detail to improve the heljan model.
