HO An old brickworks near Munich

Hi,

A small project has begun, a micro-layout based on a 40+ year old Pola brickworks kit with a feldbahn puttering between the claypit and brickworks.

Despite its age, the Pola kit holds up pretty well especially when used with some of the laser-cut Busch kits, the prototype was located on the edge of Munich but closed in the early ‘60s. The feldbahn is just a Deutz B’lok and a few v-tippers used for transporting clay from the pit to the works.

In case you were wondering, which you are not, some years ago I visited this location just over the old border in Blankenberg. There something rather friendly about narrow gauge hence the recent need to build summat narrow-minded.

Elsewhere on WT, the MoD Oil Depot is drawing to an end and when/if it eventually does depart, it will be replaced by yet another micro but somewhat different from the usual fare, a diorama of an old brickworks based on a Pola kit. Not totally dissimilar as it is industrial grot in a rural setting, an HOe feldbahn will potter twixt claypit and 'works', lots of potential for detail inspired by Floris Dilz with a bit of James Hilton (his basic plan) for good measure.
A G&H lightweight 1200x600mm board is just about physically manageable, the basis of the plan is Peco's Setrack #2 1000x600mm, but I cannot post it here, instead click here

The Peco plan will modified by moving the oval of track almost to the left edge of the board by 150mm and with the board's additional 150mm, the loco shed will become the brickworks. However the Pola kit is 303x250mm, some radical compression may be needed.

This is the reason why I have been posting about narrow gauge.........

Btw, being Germans, they are meticulous in both archiving and sharing their information, in the same spirit, a page of links.

As previously mentioned, the plan combines a simple idea from James Hilton on a G&H baseboard, the only real issue is adding the brickworks. The radical compression is the removal of the excess, by cutting along the black lines, from the base from the centre and edges will reduce the footprint by some 55mm in length and 20mm in width.

This odd snippet is the loco shed from Peco’s #2 plan, maybe with some radical changes to the plan and the longer baseboards allows an extra 150mm, the large brickworks can replace the loco shed?

The resulting footprint of the works will be just 248x230 and whilst compact, it should still be imposing especially as there is another building to add to the site.
