Trade 7mm Container Flat Wagon

For the last couple of years on and off I have been working on a 7mm kit design for a customer.

This is now finished and and my customer said in his own words "the more who see this will be amazed how good 7mm can be!!" the pictures are of the pre - production kit and yes there are a couple of minor errors which have been corrected for the production kit, the customer will be having the production kit .
I will also be having some ISO Containers 3D Printed to go on the Wagon.



The kit has Resin Cast bogie sides and resin brake blocks, the bogie sides have been designed so that the axle boxes are just that so there should be no problems with electrical shorts.



The kit has a lot of cast brass parts including pivoting couplings and sprung buffers.

There is a measurement of 38.44mm at the narrowest part between the frames which will give you .67mm clearance each side.



The kit is designed to uses two sets of 2'10" Plain Wagon Wheels from Peartree Engineering.

A well known kit builder will be building a kit in the near future and I know he will be posting build pictures.

That looks a fantastic kit, container traffic not for me but could do with more decent bogie's in 7mm and other wagon suspension units.

I have been a bit busy today, classic car repair.

The KFA will be for sale but not through my website I have been approached buy a retailer to stock the kit and others I'm working on, I cannot say which retailer but it's not Tower Models.

One I get the ok from the retailer I will let you all know.

Err, there's quite a few differences, even with containers on all the bits you can see are still different, bogies is one, buffer beams at both ends is another and the head stocks are a different shape.

But, it's anyone's railway and they can run what they like

Actually, there have been a few types and different build batches with some differences. Batch built by Standard Wagon in 1979, another batch built in Finland by the Rautaruukki Corporation in 1987. Know what you're modelling.

The KFA kit will be sold through C+L Finescale, but this will not be until after September due to other commitments they have.

If there is a great demand for the kit I'm sure that this release date could be brought forward.

Hi Pete,

Not my era but it certainly looks the business, I like the way the brake shoes have been attached, there are so many coach and bogie wagon kits that do not even include the brake shoes, so if you could come out with some sort of universal fitting kit I think you could be onto a winner, just a thought.

Sorry to be a party pooper, but you might want to take another look at the bogie side frames as there a few bits which look wrong - individually the errors are relatively small but cumulatively the whole side frame looks wrong:

- the shape of the 2 "triangular" cutouts doesn't look rounded enough and the central circular cutout is probably slightly more proud in real life
- the springs particularly the outer ones have 1 or 2 too many loops round the rod so it makes them look thinner than they actually are
- the central section should probably be a bit higher at the top (the top edge of the bogie looks slightly more curved than your's) and the bottom "pointy" bit might be a little lower on the real thing as it is approx. in line with the axle box centres (difficult to tell from your pics)

The springs and the central section might be difficult to correct (though you might be able to build up the top edge slightly), but the biggest improvement would be correcting the two triangular cut outs to the very distinctive shape of the Y25.
