Sometimes I wish I had taken the time to learn 3D drawing, I just can’t seem to get my head around it. I do however enjoy seeing what you are doing. I can also see how much clearer it is to assemble the parts than with 2D.

Hi Michael,
I think most of the "struggle" with understanding 3D CAD design is how you have to consider where you need additional drawings to build and cut certain features of the item in question and which plane to work on. It's getting your head around three planes whereas with 2D CAD we're only looking at one plane.
This is the basic drawing for the combination lever:
I've now added the second drawing which is used to cut the shape.
The first extrusion of the basic shape gives us this. It is extruded oversize so that the shape continues over into the areas bounded by the second drawing.
The first "cut" using the second drawing shapes produces this.
The second "cut" takes us to here.
The third "cut" then makes the forked end.
It's then just a case of extruding the two lubricating covers and "chamfering" the edges.

Easy when you know how but there is a steep learning curve to acquire the skills.

My skills extend to juggling lines on a screen and don't come close to the skills you exhibit machining parts for the instruments you make.

I gave Andrew a call for remaining horsebox - with a Preston number I said I would collect but instead he delivered it to my door the day after. So I now have Diag 109a horsebox kit, he had a few other bits left so I now have a Brake 3rd Birdcage roof coach kit and a tin tab kit! I think he had one remaining horsebox kit left. He mentioned a couple of possibilities on the range continuing but as they were of future commercial nature I'm not going to post publicly on here. He said he'd be at the Preston open day on Sunday so I might pop in and have a chat with him again.
So now I have a coach kit it looks like I'm going to building a loco or 2! Although there seems to be a dearth of L&Y coach or wagon kits.

My copy arrived a few days ago, one of the benefits of being a Society member. An excellent book and one which prompted my search for kits - only to find Lankykits were winding down and that there aren't any alternative kits being produced to the best of my knowledge. Best I could find was a set of Bill Bedford etched sides on eBay.
