Gun blue contains selenium, (in the form of selenous acid, I think) which is seriously not good for you or anyone else. I believe humans do require trace amounts of the element, but a bottle of gun blue is really too much!

Rubber gloves and eye protection recommended.

Gun blue is one of those things which came completely new to me when I started in 0 gauge and I've always treated it with great care. The bench is laid out with a stop watch on the right, a dish of water on the left, and the bottle beyond the work pieces (so I can't knock it over). I use a cotton bud to apply it. So really, a lot of care but no PPE beyond the "occupational" prescription specs. Which really ought to have some side protection as my "occupation" has evolved from VDU to lathe and nasty chemicals.
