im pretty new to Templot, well after 3 years I'm starting to figure out how to connect more than two points!!

Does anyone know how to upload a photo to use as a template?

I'm thinking of building Kings Cross loco in 7mm (O gauge MF) and I have a track plan saved to my photos but I can't seem to upload it.

If anyone could help that would be great.

Cheers

Thats a new one on me, I think you should ask the question on the templot help group and then come back and tell us all how to do it.

I've just tried it on my under construction layout where I imported a JPG image of an ANYRAIL file as the background and it works :)

You might find it easier, when deriving a layout from a picture, to lay plain track through one of the roads of a turnout and get the orientation and/or curvature correct, then use "Template/Insert Turnout in Plain Track" to place a turnout in that bit of plain track. You might have to use "Template/Swap and Invert" commands to get it facing the correct way and use the "Roam Along" ("9" key or Ctl/F9) command to move it along the bit of track to position it correctly. Then use the "Template Switch and "V" crossing" settings to best match it to the turnout on your background picture. Move on to the next turnout and do the same. I think this method is a bit easier than calling up a template of a turnout and trying to place and orientate it on the background picture.

Your bit of plain track you use will probably be over length and could be shortened with the F3 or F4 commands, but another way is to use the "Tools/Make Split" controls to trim off the excess bits of track, then adjust these bits of track to insert turnouts once again and repeat the performance. One of these days I'll design a layout where I start with one piece of plain track and generate every bit of track from that original piece. :)

Hi Paul,

A new Templot program update is available today -- version 214a. :)
If you start your existing Templot program it will download the update for you and run the installation.

There is a new easy way to add a background image to Templot -- you can simply drag and drop a picture from your pictures folder onto the trackpad.

I have also re-designed the dialogs to make the sequence a bit easier to follow, or at least I hope so. This is the third or fourth time I have tried re-designing them over the years. Creating background picture shapes seems to be the one thing everyone stumbles over. Quite why is something of a mystery to me.

You can follow the new sequence by clicking the background > add a background image... menu item:

Read all the notes which come up.

regards,

Martin.
