Evening all.

Thank you for your kind commentts and 'likes.'
There is some white DAS showing through here and there, hence the need to paint.

Bob, it is actually quite relaxing. I think the trick is not to try and do too much so it becomes a chore.

I set myself a limit this evening and was pleased to find that it was just right. Any more and I risked not finishing it.

A further photo or two then bringing us up to date.

I can just imagine the scene:

Late at night, every night, by the light of a sole, flickering candle, Rob Scratchitt sits hunched over his work, endlessly, endlessly repeating the same few movements, over and over again...

In the quietness of the night, above the scrape, scrape, scrape of the solitary needle, can be heard the faint sobbing of his daughter, having lost the only toy she ever had, a small, wooden rolling pin.

Mrs Scratchitt lies in bed, awake, unable to sleep, every scratch feeling like it's inside her skull, like some demented chinese water torture. The slow, black, crow black waters of the Taff are looking more and more inviting - but how to get the the shelf there ?

Thanks Tim. I am quite pleased thus far. I have a bit to do..........

In other news, ahead of the next project, I have ordered two Hattons 14xx or 48xx to be precise........To be fair I have been pretty scathing of their mechanisms but have decided to give them a go. If they are carp they go back. If they work then......

1945/46 GWR branchline based on Culm Valley.

In my case, the Lamb Valley. Small through station based on Culmstock to be known as either Baacombe or Ewestock.

Clerestories and milk.........

In this day and age, the fact that it is a question is really concerning. I thought we’d moved on from Grafar 2-pole motors...

Good luck

Hi Simon, it’s not so much the motors, as the design of the chassis/drivetrain. I’m very interested in seeing how Rob gets on, mine initially was poor, but with some effort it’s now acceptable.

Morning all.

Well, despite lubricating and running in as per instructions, the shirt button example is to be returned. Poor slow speed performance, stalling and occasionally locking up, with the motor sounding as if it is trying to turn, has sealed its fate.

It is such a shame. These are lovely looking models ( odd ommisions aside) but their innards let them down.

So, I will exchange this one and see what happens.....and hopefully the other won't disgrace itself...

That’s disappointing Rob. I’ve read elsewhere that Tim (Captain Kernow) had running problems with his. Do these designers / manufacturers not make prototypes to prove the design? It’s unacceptable.

I agree Paul and I have been critical of this model in the past but decided to take a chance. In conversation with others who have purchased these, it seems you have two or three attempts to get a good one.......However, the chap I spoke to this morning at Hattons whilst arranging the return was unaware of any issues with them. Now he could be....but............

The simple fact is that it is a complicated design. Either the actual design is flawed or the factory where they are made is unable to build to the specification required.

To the best of my knowledge, the designer has yet to comment on what must be a high failure rate on this model.

Anyway, let's see what happens with the next one........

If it’s any consolation Rob, I bought a RTR 7mm 48xx once. It sort of ran, but was skittish. The chassis detail was frankly poor. So I put a Slaters chassis under it. I believe Captain Kernow has resorted to a similar solution with his 4mm model.

Agree Paul. There are alternatives but in doing that we are compensating for a poor product. I am not too concerned. I will just send them back.

If it went as well as it looks there would obviously be no issue.

I would have thought a reliable chassis would come before anything. Tim is popping a perserverance chassis under his, I believe.

I like the concrete very much, and it’s very much better than my feeble efforts. Must try harder...

(Further hints and tips most welcome)

Best
