Talerddig Mk ll: finally some fact instead of a lot of fiction

Hi all,

Bit of a diversion from all the recent stock projects. A while back I used some spare Parkside van parts to fashion a grounded body/mess/store hut type of thing based on a photo I found online of such a structure with replacement corrugated sides. Unfortunately I can't find the picture now but I decided to press on regardless.

A lot of photos of grounded vans show them in a real state, I've tried to represent an example that while knackered, is still in use to some extent.

I'm quite pleased with the the rusted effect!

Thanks both.

Nice work Matt, what was the method you used to do the rust? Looks very good.
Cheers

Undercoated in red brown, masking fluid applied with a bit of sponge with no particular pattern or thought, topcoated and then making fluid removed. I did a load of pieces and chose the ones I liked best because some end up more convincing than others!

Hello all!

A view down to the bufferstops at Talerddig station on a quiet Sunday morning. The only sign of life is a lone sand wagon and 20t brakevan that sit abandoned in one of the sidings.

One of these days I'm going to actually lay some track!

Hi Matt, nice work on the van. Having had a look at photos of real grounded vans many have further supports in between the ends. I would suggest where the artistically applied red blobs are:

Hope you don't mind the suggestion.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the comment and the suggestion. I'd actually come to the same conclusion having done a bit of online browsing last night. I'll be adding further supports.

My next conundrum is what to do with the doors - I'm thinking peeling grey paint to reveal bauxite underneath?

Most convincing, Matt, well done!

Sponge applied PVA method again? Pray tell :)

P.S. Are the windows made from micro strip? Thanks.

Hi Jonte,

The doors were done using AK's Worn Effects - a product I've used several times with varying levels of success. Happily, it worked well this time.

The windows are screen printed sheets from Freestone Models - very useful!
