Sankey MW 0-4-0

Hello all
I am very new here but been on the GOG forum for quite a long time so some may recognize my name. My present project is a Slaters 'F' class MW being built as Sankey on Colonel Stephens' Edge Hill Light Railway. It is destined for the Colonel Stephens Railway Museum, Tenterden when finished.
There is a comprehensive build thread on the G)G forum, too long to copy over to here.
A couple of photos. One shows progress to date with the first loose assembly.
The second, 1 of the very few photos (curtisey CSRM) of what I am trying to achieve.

Hi all
a bit of backwards progress.
Last week I used the warm weather to paint the chassis. I have reassembled it and the wheels won't go round, first the coupling rods are jamming but I don't know why.:headbang: 2nd the cross head just touches the crank pin which I was sort of expecting so will but a shim under the cylinder.
Leave so as not to throw it up the wall and/or jump on it and do a bit in the garden. Cut my hand so still on hold. But it does look OK for what that is worth.:)

I will return soon.

Following this with interest. I love good brow-beaten Manning Wardle, so looking forwards to the result. Good look with getting the chassis running again - I'm building an L Class, and having painted my chassis, I dare not test it again for fear of the dame thing happening. And I don't have any valve gear to worry about!

Hi all
My hand has healed and I have now had a look at the chassis.
The main cause of jamming was a wheel out of quarter.
Note This Slaters kit is at the very least 25 years old. The wheels press on to an axle with a D shape end . It would not happen with the current Slaters wheels on square axles. If I was building as a runner, not static display I would replace the wheels with the current type.
The cross head clearance was improve with a little filing on the back and the end of the crank pin. It would need a little packing under the cylinders and the motion bracket slot opening up a little to be sure.

Hi all
Now to start the details. First the reversing rack & lever. The instructions state fix rack to side of firebox and insert lever. Done, now a problem, the bunker overhangs the footplate. Do some measuring, the gap is 2mm the rack is nearer 3.5mm. My answer was to cut away all but the fixing stubs. It will be out of sight behind the bunker.

The reach rod is too short for this loco so I soldered a bit of wire to the end which locates through a hole in the footplate. It will be hidden behind the tool box.

More soon

Hi all
And now it comes together (and the photos show the problems).

First fault, not noticed until looking at photo. The nut holding the tool box has caught on the motion bracket causing the bow along the footplate.
2nd the Safety valve not sitting properly.
3rd the sand box lever should have a link across between the chimney and front of tank but can't be fitted in one piece because of the hand rail so will have to be made up on final assembly.

I Will keep going, honest.

Hi all
After a bit of gardening and reading a bit more slow fiddly progress. The SV links and other back head fittings.

The sight glasses, regulator and SV horizontal levers are castings from the kit. The SV pedestals (is that the correct term) are tube and wire.
(The instructions mention castings but I could not find them in this second hand kit so may have been lost in the past)
In the second photo the weather board looks out of line but that is a photographers fault.
Can you see the drain pipes from the bottom of the sight glasses are missing? I did not bother because when the coal bunkers are fitted and a driver it will be impossible to see anyway. My 'over the fence' modelling.
