It has been reported this morning that Roy Jackson (of Retford fame) has sadly passed away. My thoughts with his friends and family.

    Oh dear!
Sorry to hear that, I only met him once but he was a lovely chap. His talent will be sorely missed.
Condolences to his family and friends.
    Rest in peace, Roy.

I knew this was coming but hugely sad news, thank you Jim for letting us know.

I had the pleasure of visiting Roy at the beginning of 2018, and apart from the "train set" he was hugely hospitable and welcoming. And then the "crew" turned up and things just got better, and better. A truly unforgettable experience.

Roy was a towering figure in the hobby, who has inspired very many, he will be very much missed.

    RIP Roy

That's very sad news. His enthusiasm for EM and the hobby was a joy.

    RIP Roy

The finescale world has lost a guiding light this Saturday when the sad passing of Roy Jackson was announced.

A firm and vocal advocate of EM gauge for 50+ years, with such classic layouts such as High Dyke, Dunwich and the truly gargantuan Retford, he will be sadly missed.

I count myself truly lucky, along with many others, to have known and come into contact with him.

    RIP Roy

Very sadly, as noted above, Roy Jackson passed away last Saturday. The thread here on WT was subsequently removed from public view at the request of the family as not all of Roy's relatives were at that time aware of the sad news.

I have spoken to Geoff Kent, who with his wife Chris has been together with Roy over the last month or so, and he has said that he and the family are now OK with the information being made public. For those who don't know, Geoff and Roy were very close friends, building many famous models together and much more besides.

Geoff will be writing a full obituary which will be published in a future MRJ.

A sad loss. I know of Roy Jackson - though I've met and spoken with him a few times at Expo EM - much more than I knew him and admired his work. I remember Dunwich from the MRJ show (when it was one of the relatively few layouts I was tall enough to see!), Retford for its sheer ambition (though I only saw that at the NEC in an undressed state) and Roy's admission of its faults ('my track's crap' he said, 'but it works'). He'll be missed.
