Hello Everyone,

I've been a little quiet of late, have a big project underway at home and hopefully once I've got the floor down and plasered etc... I'll be able to unpack all my railway stuff and be modelling again..
We live in a 3 bed bungalow with a sizeable loft it's mostly open apart from 2 central supports which hold the roof purlins (not sure about the spelling of that) I've added some extra joists and am in the process of putting some stud walls into the eves.. These will have access doors for storage etc. I've put in two velux windows, central heating and electrics. I'll be putting some floor down hopefully this week, once that's done ill start to insulate the rafters. I plan to staple triple bubble foil to them then add roof latting which ill plasterboard onto. Plan to use the taper edged board's so I'll only need to tape and skim the joins and fill the screw holes.. heres a few pics..

Yep, I fully recommend using your loft :) & bungalows usually have quite large ones ideal for a model railway.
I'm sure the space will shrink rapidly though once you get that humungous great German loco up there, though.... :D

You are making a very good job of that:bowdown:

What a great space it's going to be:thumbs:

Are you sure you'll be allowed to use it for trains:eek:

Yes when SWMBO see's it she might have other ideas. She won't come up at the moment because of the 'spiders' .....
The floor space is twice whats on the pictures that's just half of the loft, we'll have 22ft x 22ft floor space to play with when it's done..

Just a little update. Got the 1st half timbers all down and rockwool in between the joists. Started the 2nd half now which is pretty much the same. . Once I've got all the joists in and rockwool between them ill order the flooring. Found Travis Perkins to be the cheapest, 18mm x 600mm x 2400mm T&G moisture resistant chipboard is what ill be putting down....

Hi Ian. . There's about 12ft to apex from floor but ill be putting an 8ft ceiling up once floor is down and its safe to work? (Well thats if the bloody roof doesn't blow off tonight!!! The little stud walls with the openings for storage and access into eaves are about 3'8"

About as subtle as a brick mate but at least no air will rise through the blocked up hatch, cheeky boy. Go and get another yorkie bar and upset some more motorists :p
