Phil's GW coach bodging

Whilst cleaning up the steps thoughts are turning towards a shunting plank, so that I have some track to check that rolling stock actual does! When things have progressed beyond some doodling on Templot, I will start a thread in the layout section.

I have hit another snag, the brackets that hold the steps to the underfloor are in the way of V brackets for the regulator gear. I tried to skim a bit off using a slitting disc, but this nearly took of the opposite side bottom step and inner vertical off! Fortunately I noticed before too much damage was done. I will now have a rummage and see if I have a small grindstone that I can get in.

Edit:- I have added a piece in the post where I completed the steps and before they were fitted, to refer to this post.

It is a shame you didn't have a Bachmann Hawksworth auto trailer to look at while assembling the brass 70 footer. I had while building an old Mallard kit and it stopped me making some 'orrible mistakes. :p

The big difference Larry is that the doors and hence the steps are at the ends, and it hasn't helped that I have had to narrow the coach sides to allow for the ends having been etched as if they were flat, rather than angled. It's all trial and error, with a bit of suck it and see. It is marketed as a scratch aid and there's definitely a lot scratching, mostly of my head. I very much doubt that anyone would do a proper kit and even less for a RTR pair. At the end of the day I will at least have something that may not be 100% accurate, but will hopefully look the part and will be representative of rolling stock that spent a lot of time on the Devon and Cornwall border.

Well I have cleared a space for the brake and regulator gear. only to find that I was looking at the gear for he engine end of the coach rather that the cab leading end.

I made a start on assembling the operating gear, only to find that this needs even more space, but a perusal of the bits supplied by David Geen looks promising, so hopefully I can bodge this to fit.

some progress has been made to Pottery Quay, see the layout thread.

Sorry for the lack of an update, but I was at the Bristol show over the weekend, but before I went there was a little activity. I partially assembled the Dartcastings auto gear.

Once I had soldered the piece under the file I cut the plate back to size and did a trial fit and found that there was no way this was going to fit, so I dug out the David Geen bits to see if that might work instead. I will need to make a partial assembly to see if it will go.
