7mm Pete's workbench. LMS 2P or madness in a box.

Managed to add some of the prefabricated parts to the body.

Firstly I added the brass safety valve to the boiler, then the boiler was fixed to the footplate. The boiler fitted very well, just a little fettling at the smokebox end. Wish they could all be like that.

When I laminated the front springs, I decided to swap sides with them, as I felt the details were better. This meant that the centre bar is free at the bottom, instead of being attached to the footplate. The valve cover just needed easing to drop into place.

List for brass work is now down to just forming the roof and fitting. Attaching steps, fire and lamp irons.

Getting damn close to that painting stage although I need to redo the springing on the radials, and check I can get the motor in.

Just need to form and make the roof removable. All the rest of the brass work is done.
There are not to many castings so should not be long now.
The last lamp iron and vacuum pipe have been fitted to the rear.

The lamp irons and vacuum pipe to the front. Along with the handrails. I've just noticed, I've managed to break the smoke box iron.

The fire iron holders are now on the tank top. I did notice that some locos have a short one at the front. But not the loco this will represent. In my kit one of them was cast in nickel, the other in quite a soft brass. I put the nickel one at the front in the most vulnerable position.

Finally the step were fitted. These went well. The kit here does give you a choice of early or late treads.

Must do another clean up. The atmosphere here is a pain. Brass tarnishes in front of your eyes.

I could work with the room closed up and air-conditioning on, but then it feels a bit isolated. But soon as you turn it off the humidity returns.

I have a feeling the previous owner of this kit borrowed a few casting. Nothing serious just a PITA. I thought the brass was done. I then remembered the hand brake. Instructions say discard the short one into the spares box, well this was duly done, as there was only the sort one in the box I knocked one up out of tube and wire.

It's now time to revisit the frames and get the final detail on them finished. I seem to of come to the bottom of the box as for bits that need fixing to the loco body. The chimney and dome need a little filler. I knocked the chimney, and dropped the dome. Which is a nice solid casting with a very fine skirt. So didn't bounce very well. Oh BU@@ER. The back head still needs to be made, I need to hunt out a few extra parts for that. Any one got pictures of a small LNER loco back head?

Back to work and get some jobs finished.

Edit to sort out pictures.

Well that's another to the paint shop. The frames are now complete, and actually fitted in the body.
I removed the single spring on the radials and put one either side. The outer wheel would sometimes lift with just one. A central keep was added too.

Motor and gears also fitted, with my usual torque set up for this motor arrangement. It's very simple and I find works well, even on sprung or compensated axles.

I suppose it really is time for me to catch up on the painting.

Believe it or not lining has begun. Whilst going through my cupboard I found some HMRS lining, so thought I'd give it a go, before all the stick goes.

What do you think? There's a couple of places I may revisit.
Congratulations - that's looking quite nice. You've got further than I hoped to on my loco.

As you were asking for feedback my one area of concern is the lining at the rear. I haven't got a good side view of a similar tender but the top curve of the lining I think would look better closer to the edge of the tender. The best shot I have is a side view of a riveted tender but another shot of a welded tender seems to be lined the same way.

At the rear of the tender the vertical lining extends well above the handrail and the top step at the rear, on your tender the bend forward seems to start at the top of the handrail. At the back the gap between the lining and the top of the tender side plate is similar to the top line and the middle of the bend in the side sheet. Hopefully with the HMRS lining it could easily be altered and be one of the areas you are revisiting - the way you have used it works well because it has all lined up neatly. However I do think this small change will make a big difference to the appearance.

Thanks Adrian.
I see what you mean about the rear handrail. I need to go back to school, and learn how to read a ruler. I set the compass to mark the position at 7.25 not 5.25. The front curves the same too, but the rest I managed to get right. Well spotted sir.
Well that's tomorrow's lining sorted.

Thank you both.
Shows how much you can miss even with 40 or 50 pictures of them in the prototype file.

Any one side is redone other side will have to wait until after the dreaded school run. Oh and getting SWMBO a little something for tomorrow. It's all a pain really she likes to observe both UK and Brazilian days so we have 2 mother's days, 2 valentine's and 2 Christmas's as here they have the celebrations on Christmas Eve.

Front and rear on my info is 1'3" the rest as you say. But even having the right info is no good if convert it correctly, but f**k the measuring.

As I can only do the loco lining in daylight, and I only get an hour or so a day to work on the locos.

A new project for the evenings in the workshop was required. Just for a change a carriage. It's a Maunsell corridor composite, to Dia2302. It is a Classic Scale Models kit with Slater's etched bogies. The carriage is unstated but one of the bogies had been partly assembled, but inside out. So before doing anything else the thing was made back into a kit to see if it would survive enough to reassemble.
Fortunately it will, although it's in a few more parts than its brother. It's strange how many of my builds start of by turning it back into a kit of parts.

Already for reassembly.

Looking forward to this, as it will be a change from locos, might spur me on to do my LSWR corridors, for myself.

Peter, have sent you the bogie destructions on a PM.
