A superb build, great attention to detail and masses of skill for the many, many scratchbuild items! A loco to be very proud of. The Tiger was well deserved IMO.

I always find that Tiger gives me a throbbing headache, especially after the sixth bottle.
From my days in Singapore in the 1970s I remember reading "Time for a Tiger" by Anthony Burgess in which a driver named Nabby Adams drinks warm Tiger to mask his chronic toothache. It was Indonesia's Heinekin (called Bintang) that gave the biggest headaches of all - we put it down to the formaldehyde preservative to keep it from going off on warm/hot bar shelves. Happy days!

I will never see the WHR in the same light after following this thread. It looks like I'll be traveling to Caernafon in August with the entire family in tow.

....I have fitted most of the detachable parts to the model and here it is sitting happily on the front and hind units. I did add some extra pipework in between the units and cradle as the area looked a bit bare.

...remember this? Time to reassemble. It's mainly removing paint from places it shouldn't be and fixing all the unpainted detail on. The chassis were quite tricky to reassemble though.

Here I've added the steam pipes to the cylinder drain cocks.

And some lubricator pipes.

And then reattached most of the pipework to the boiler and cab.

The gauges need fitting up and a few more lube pipes on the front and hind unit then we're done. Just the mystery of Soundtraxx DCC decoder to unravel then.........

It's finished, well apart from fitting up the decoder, and the addition of some coal. Ring ring, ring ring, ''Hello is that Yorkshire Dave? Can I just ask.........''

Those gauge faces look a bit tatty when blown up, must sort that out. Amazing paint job by Warren Haywood folks......

As I said when I visited, it's a shame it's so small. I'd really like one a little bigger, gauge 1 (1:32) on bespoke gauge (18 mm) track sort of thing as the next size up readily available is the G scale Accucraft version.

Whilst the SAR interest bubble was circulating and just for giggles I drew up some upgraded NGG16 to fictitious heavier variants for hillier grades.

The NGG18 is a 2-8-2 + 2-8-2 design with enlarged boiler for the extra capacity and modified sun glare cab as seen on many Cape gauge Henschel locos.

The NGG18A is a second later batch with more modern rounded tanks and Giesel ejector.

The NGG20 is reduced axle loading variant on a 4-8-2 + 2-8-4 configuration, the rear tank originally being coal fired with automatic stoker (hence the raised profile to house the stoker screw), since removed and converted to oil. Also fitted with modern high beam head lights.

In an ideal world you'd use much of the Backwoods model for the castings and various other parts, then etch or scratch the bits in between, idle minds are terrible you know :p

Here's the finished loco, I'm afraid I couldn't get any decent pics of it and all I could manage are there phone snaps.
