Nick Dunhill's 7mm W (A6) or Whitby Tank Workbench

Hi Peter.
The crankpin nuts are from Laurie Griffin. You have to run a 12 BA tap through them, but they finish the rods off nicely. The fastner on the knuckle joint is home made though and that also has a cotter pin.

As Mick says, the bosses on NER locos seem to have a drain plug, hence the confusing shape.

Happy Christmas

Hi Nick
Found it, on the front endpaper of NER Record Vol 3 the GA drawing from The Engineer of October 1908 from which it is easy to deduce that the left leads the right and the coupling rod pins are at 180 deg to the crank on the same side.
Regards
Martin

...Thanks for your help. The locos have now been tested, stripped, cleaned and sent to Warren's workshop for a lick o'paint.

....so more progress on the assembly. The inside motion was a bit tricky to get right on this model. I have to confess that's because I never test ran this one with all the motion in it (risky!) I took both models to a few shows as Show-and-Tell and I guess this was the one displayed the right way up with all the cab detail and the other displayed upside down with all the motion. Hope so, that will mean the motion on the other won't be such a pig to assemble and get working smoothly.

Ignore the ticking, it's my workshop clock, it doesn't squeel anymore either now the oil has got around.

The rest was just a case of carefully fitting everything up.

Just the gauge faces to add, oh and another model too. (I have also been informed by my very reliable source that the Westinghouse pumps should be lined green!)

I couldn't have done this without help from Mick Davies, Warren Haywood, Tom Burnham, Evan Davies, NRM staff, Diane Carney, Jonathan Marcus, Stuart Tebbett, jonathan Bushell, Dave Chapman, Laurie Griffin and everyone who contributed through this thread. Thank you very much.

Very nice - I hadn't realised till now that the tanks were lined along the edge of the tanks as well as the panels. It does finish the model nicely. The wheels are very distinctive as well to complete the overall impression, Warren also managed to get all the wheels on the track this time for the photos. :D
