Ahem, stop blocks?

My first thought, too.

Having had the misfortune of a loco high diving from an exhibition layout while we tested it at home without the ends fitted, it's always the first thing I think of.

The loco survived. It hadn't been painted, and bounced off a chair on its way down. The chimney was knocked off, and the cab roof slightly dented. We still have it now, and it runs just as sweetly as the day it took to flying.

So when we arrived last night, the first thing Richard showed was a 70' long container wagon ("and there's four more of them, they ran in blocks of five", quoth he). This, added to the Heljan Cargowagon last week suggests Richard is acquiring stock faster than we can build sidings to hold it.

Hi all, worry not, that section isn't live yet, so no chance of stock taking flying lessons... Unless Richard starts using the R/C engines in anger..

Only a 1000 or so sleepers to lay! Who says nothing big ever gets built in S7..?

Hi all.

Been a while since an update, but work is steadily progressing, and the main fiddle yard is really coming along.

We had a work party today and got a good amount of work done, only mildly hindered by a fabulous lunch!



Only 4 more sidings to lay, and the electrical word has started in ernest.

Servos have been decided upon for the points and the multi skilled group are currently designing a mount which will allow the actuators to be mounted underneath the baseboards.

The tourist stock isn't looking too well at the moment, having been cannibalised for bogies. Needs a respray at some point in the future too.

Unless you are already sorted, these may be of interest? LNER Buckets seats specifically for Tourist stock from Peter Cowling. I recently bought a set of brass Tourish stock kit that came without seats so I was researching them and was pointed Peter Cowling's way by Peter Dobson (Newbould Models). At £3.50 for a sprue of 8 twin seats they are not the cheapest that I have found but they are the most detailed.

up from plasticard myself. Do you know if he produces the single seats to?

While we're on the subject, were the tourist stock sets ever split up and used in normal scheduled trains,or did they always run in a set until withdrawal?

Do you have a contact for Peter cowling? Does he have a website?

I only have an email address - petercowling377atbtinternet.com change the at for @ but he's quick to respond. I don't believe that he has a website.

According to Michael Harris in LNER Carriages, "post war the buffet cars were used separately from other carriages which were more often in general service" (I take the latter to mean, as opposed to purely excursion stock which is the purpose that they were built for).

Sorry, I forgot to add that I don't know about single seats because I didn't need any because the drawings in Historic Carriage drawings only show twin seats in the coaches that I have - I am getting etched nickel buffet car seats from Peter Dobson for the buffets.

We still have the engine yard to lay of course, and then the branchline, and then the yard outside of the loop, and then........

Why do you have so much stock on a layout that is still under construction?

The only time we have any stock on a layout that is under construction is when we're testing the track and that tend to be a loco and the longest coach we have.

Hi Ozzy,

The outer loop of the layout is 100% working and has been for a number of years now. We're currently working on the inner shunting yard, but is nearing completion. Or at least we're nearer to completion than we were to starting!

We do run trains on the outer loop, and I must admit to using the new fiddle yard for a bit of stock photography when I have something that needs its picture taken. To be fair though, the current small gang of Crosscombe Magna started work on the original outer loop around 5 years ago (?), and if we didn't run a train every now and then, I think there would be a downturn in productivity, which with such a large project we can't really afford to have.

Further progress this evening. Just a couple of short panels need laying, and the fiddle yard is done for track building. Next, the wiring and laying of the loco yard. Not sure if we have a plan for this just yet.



I'll have a tidy up on the next work evening for some slightly better pictures, which will be after Telford now unfortunately..

The Class 37 with the two wagons seems to have parked itself across it.
