My Compound will have one of them chips in about a weeks' time. I ordered it yesterday. Good to know you can still run Carrog but I know it won't be for long.. . .

Hi Larry,
The compound looks very nice in black and runs superbly. Is it all your handiwork, of just the painting?
Cheers,
Peter

It is a RTR Bachmann Compound and is among a small handful of 4mm models that I kept for display in my workroom after selling up. A Compound, Castle and a Duchess. Come to think of it, that sound very much like Focalplane's 7mm collection... :)

Dapol's 0 gauge 14XX has moved a step closer to production. Obviously, I dont know if the tanks are full of weights, but I wish the boiler was 'heavy metal' instead of plastic, while leaving the tanks empty so that those of use who use DCC sound could fit the largest possible speakers....

A taster (repainted San Cheng model)...

The Heljan 43XX in BR early black livery arrived this morning. I need assistance in identifying a few parts though. I suspect the block with two flat prongs is the automatic train control plunger. But what are the two forks for and what is the bit of plumbing on the RH side of the shot? This was loose in the box...

This will likely the biggest locos I will buy! I am more in tune with tank engines in O gauge....

Following closure and with demolition imminent, I took a couple of pictures at Carrog Fourmil this morning. Signals had been removed before the asset strippers moved in...

I will probably build a longer version of the GWR brick waiting shelter for the 7mm scale layout...

A Heljan GWR Large Prairie arrived last week minus bunker side and back steps. I was emailed a return slip and the loco was promptly returned...

WEB Heljan missing parts.jpg

It's replacement arrived safely today but with one one screw to two pony trucks (I have heard of this before). While waiting for a response, I found a screw in my spares tray with the appropriate thread plus a brass washer, so job done. Then I saw the bottom step was missing from the bunker. We'd been here before! The stock response was "Send it back".

Not likely. It'd be a rum do if I couldn't meck a replacement step! I can say this on here without being chastised by a few million box openers....

WEB Heljan missing parts 3.jpg

The step was made from 12thou thick brass 3.25mm wide..

Yes, Larry, mine came with only one pony screw and there were no spares in my workbench and no spares in the UK! But they did me proud in the end.

It's a powerful locomotive, just like the prototype.

As to 5339, well, of course I got it wrong, it was 5399 that I should have mentioned and these are 5 "sightings" in various publications:

5399
1960
Barmouth train at Glyndyfrdwy. Loco often seen on the line, withdrawn 1962

5399
1962
Up train to Chester at Garth Goch, loco withdrawn 1962

5399
1961
DOWN train leaving Dolgelley

5399
1960
UP bay platform, Barmouth

5399
1961
Express (?holiday extra?) passing Carrog
