A week on and Sprockit is still patiently continuing with his work ............... whist we are pretty much through a second tray of buns!!
p1.jpg
Has to be said though it is well worth us continuing staying out of the way and lacing into the cakes given the look of the pavement thathe is creating by hand............
p2.jpg

and it isnt even painted or weathered yet........

p3.jpg

What you see is merely a mix of tile adhesive, pva and poster paint ................oh and lots and lots of work by the man with the large collection of hat pins!;)

Very nice guys, that pavement is so reminiscent of the ones I walked as a kid in Hull!

"Tread on a crack - you'll break your back; walk on a line, you'll marry a swine!

Cheers,

I have to admit young Sprockit is making a good job of the "flags", considering where he lives all the footpaths are green, as in grass!
I wanted him to use this paver which is directly outside the back gate to my property. Over the years since we have lived here (1972) each year a fresh crop of students who just have to see if the wording is correct. Still if it keeps them happy, who am I?

Not only are the pavements appearing but Colin has also spent time finishing buildings ready for painting...........

b1.jpg

Now all I have to do is just carefully paint this so as to look like an extemely run down small printing works.......

b2.jpg

I can forsee a lot of weathering brickwork plus some carefull but worn signwriting in my future.

b3.jpg

Mind I am glad that the weathering and finishing will be limited to looks and not smell........... as the structure also includes the facilities in the pub yard next door.

With Sprokit well on his merry way with the paving we made use of hi absence at the last meeting to put in a base coat (mix of grey tile adhesive, pva and black poster paint). Which will dry a lot lighter and can be rubbed down into the rough concrete finish some areas of Hull yards seemed to sport in later days (presumably to stop the larger heavier coal lorries sinking into the ground).

Once in a condition where it is dry, rubbed down and ready we will add the liberal coating of slimey coal dust and puddles...........

Another week and work progresses yet further......

Sprockit is starting to suffer from RPS (Repetative Pavement Syndrome) but has nearly finished it all.......mind...has all the cobbled street to do after that....:p

Meanwhile Colin has been busy..........
ch1.jpg
Though having nearly finished it he doesnt like the colour of the Coal Office/Shop (based on th eone that existed at Botanic Gardens Station in Hull) ........... (too drab) and thus I have been tasked with both completing it and giving it a makeover before it is added to the layout.

I might just tweak that window display a bit too........;)
ch2.jpg

Down the other end of the yard the walling is starting to go in........

ch3.jpg

Plus this odd looking affair has appeared............which is the beginnings of a repesentation of the foundations of a detached fish and chip shop (bombed in WW2 and cleared) on top of which the temporary building fish and chip shop he built at the start of this project will partially sit......
ch4.jpg

...and yes those are 7mm scale individual bricks he is using ............laying them one at a time to represent the remains of the original walls......

and it isnt all sitting arround watching one person work.......oh alright is often is.......!:D

We have had one of those........ 'you guys are into trains here you can have this'....... kind of moments...........
ch5.jpg
Which resulted in us ending up with this scary green trainset..............complete with legs made out of bed ends.

Slightly simplified (to remove the outer loop that both blocked the level crossing and was partially over the end of the baseboard) .....Broadsword has decided to make sense of the wiring by first removing it all........... and then starting again.

Once complete and tested it should make some kids Christmas..........

Sound the fanfare.......Sprocket has at last finished the pavement!!:) ....................now he just has all the cobbles to lay!

On other issues painting is progressing on finished building and whilst that goes on Colin has been busy laying the remains of the shop flooring in the foundations of the bombed building.
b1.jpg
Yes it doesnt look a lot but we had a distraction on the workshop (as well as cake for Steves birthday)

A pair of 350 Falcons..........

Any more updates chaps?

Yes plenty thanks.............. not as if we stand around drinking tea and eating buns all evening!:D

However most of the pictures were on my laptop that went belly up - fortunately virtually everything was backed up and/or data recovered. So more on the layout soon.

At present most of our time has been taken up getting 'Horsepittle Grates' and it associated toys ready for its appearance at Telford. Plus Broadsword has been swearing at........sorry I mean adding some electrical upgrades to the W&U layout 'Outwell' as part of its upgrade ready for its trip to Holland in October.

Stay tuned for more drivel..............

There's been quite a bit happening Martin. Mally's got stuck into completing the WD and the class 14 isn't too far behind now. Col is striding ahead with the buildings and I'm just about there with the cobbled roads and assorted roadside accoutrements - drains, manhole covers etc. Otherwise Rippers is aching to go with the paint pallet. Tappa's on with the rearmost buildings too I believe. Tho' it's seemingly a bit slow I think it'll all come together fairly swiftly over the next few weeks bar a few holidays to be taken. I'll take some pics tomorrow night and post if Rippers doesn't beat me to it.

Pot...........Kettle..........are words springing to mind!:D

Yes there has been progress........ sleightly slowed ar present due to us getting Hopital ready for Telford and Outwell undergoing an underboard upgrade ready for Wigan and it trip to Holland............. and my recording it all was somewhat curtailled when my laptops graphic card melted......

However on the layout front.......
h1.jpg

Clin has bee busy scratch building fittings and furniature for the upstairs living accomodation of the corner pub (most of which will probably not be seen whn finished.................... but hey, we know its there!)

h2.jpg

Elsewhere the man with DAS in hand has been busy creating the sets for the street frontage.

h2a.jpg

Including the correct street furniature

h3.jpg

Plus the Patty shop has gained its roof and now sits in place (the somewhat tidy looking garden and surroundings will be toned down and overgrown in due course (thinking about painting the window frames white too as it looks a bit dowdy in its all green finish)

h4.jpg

h5.jpg

This impressed me on Buzz Models stand at Telford ............. to the point that I actually found myself handing over the required folding for a kit........... which as a Yorkshireman I can offer no greater recomendation

h6.jpg

Laser cut wood kit and it just falls together.............

The first picture reminds me of that certain tune aspiring guitar players are not allowed to play in music shops. That would be "Stairway to Heaven"!!
