After a lot of faffing around I am more or less at the same point I was a few days back however looking at the rainstrips I think they are going to have to come off and be redone:

Speaking as a constant coach builder, simplicity is the keyword. Which is why when it comes to Gresleys, I use Hornby coaches as donors of roofs, chassis, bogies and interiors. I have a spare one on the shelf and while I might not want to do it, I think forward three hours and know I will be looking at a finished unpainted coach with brass sides. :)

As part of my daily exercise I just so happened to pass my local Halfords having just so happened to have placed a click and collect order for further supplies of primer so hopefully should not now run out.

Added torpedo vents from my Shapeways mouldings, fashioned a crude filler cap from 2mm styrene rod and added a couple of grab rails from 0.45mm N/S:

A piece of N/S strip is notched and soldered to a length of 0.45mm wire:

Then clipped off IMG_2087.JPG

Other end done and basic shaping done: IMG_2090.JPG

I originally inteded to drill out the alarm gear mountings but in the end just used a razor saw:

And epoxied in place:

I mentioned previously that I intended to try using Archer's Rivet transfers. Quite impressed:IMG_2093.JPG

And with a quick blast of primer: IMG_2100.JPG

I have started "teaking" the body. First off a base coat of Halfords' Filler Primer is sprayed on the sides, just enough to cover and not obscure detail. With that dry a 50/50 mix of Vallejo Bright Orange and Orange Brown brushed thinly. Even coverage is really not important at this point however the brush is drawn in the direction of the grain. Once the base colours have dried some Vallejo Flat Earth is dry brushed onto some of the panels just to give them some variety. Finally a coat of Klear is applied and the whole body left to cure overnight:

I have also taken the opportunity to do something I have intended for a long time, taken a video of the process so I can upload it to YouTube.

Looking as brilliant as ever Mike. You say a coat of Klear. What are you applying it with and is it used neat or thinned down a bit with something? Cheers Ian
