A Kernow GWR 'Truro' signalbox arrived this dinnertime....

WEB Brick buildings 5B.jpg

Steps, supports and part of a drainpipe were inside the signalbox to they'll be fitted later....
WEB Brick buildings 6D.jpg

Windows on the back were just what I wanted seeing as Ruabon Middle Box had them overlooking the goods yard....
WEB Brick buildings 6C.jpg

Painting of the wooden frame came first while poking the brush around the etched window frames. Something brown and matt was needed so I used Phoenix-Precision P39 LMS Wagon Bauxite....

Finished. The window frames were painted with a draughtsmans pen. Ediited 19th April to replace poor artificial light images with three taken in today's sunlight. They give a better indication of colours....

WEB Brick buildings 7.jpg

Wagon grey was added to the bauxite before painting the locking room doors and window ledges...

The second 'March' building arrived and so I prepared the two ends that would mate by skimming them...

WEB Brick buildings 8.jpg

Evostik Impact was applied to much of both ends, but before bringing tem together i applied blobs of Loctite around the Evostick. This made for a good join. Skimming did not eliminate all the gaps, so they were filled with UHU Wood glue, which has no affect on paintwork. The doors and windows etc were then painted to match the earlier job....
WEB Brick buildings 8B.jpg

Some weathering will hopefully help disguise the join. This is the platform side of the building.....
WEB Brick buildings 8C.jpg

The join on the road side was easy ~ I hid it with a new drainpipe, or it could be a breather pipe from the ladies lavatories.....
WEB Brick buildings 8D.jpg

Close up of the Ladies toilets, new pipe and 'lead flashing' on roof to hide join. Again, some weathering is needed....

There are several canopies on the market although fewer than I expected (maybe others are hidden within lists of other components). I chose one from Laserworks seeing as I was delighted with their 7mm scale goods shed kit (I've got one in 4mm to build). It was partially assembled exactly as per illustrated instructions. The canopy is 85mm wide and 324mm long...
WEB Canopy 1.jpg

As can be seen, it is a self-supporting razer-saw canopy. Having got this far, I needed to modify it into a lean-too with a single row of legs...
WEB Canopy 2.jpg

Just to show what it will look like against the station building....

Lovely buildings here Larry. I'm waiting some more red Oxide spray so I can finish my pub. Looking forward to doing some more buildings, I'm finding them quite therapeutic!

Hi Larry,

could you provide a link to Laserworks please as they do not appear to be listed on the Traders list on the Guild's website. Just want to see what else they are listing.

Stay safe all

regards

Major modification this morning. I decided to raise the height of the canopy and so the chunky pillars were replaced with much longer 2.5mm plastic rod sunk into carefully drilled holes. WEB Canopy 7.jpg

Raising the canopy height has usefully hidden the shaped brickwork designed for Bachmann canopies. Bargeboards finished off the bare end wall...
WEB Canopy 7B.jpg

Brass rod was glued securely into the grooves between the canopy sections and then pushed into holes drilled into the brickwork. It will remain removable to I can clean the platform without damaging the pillars.....
WEB Canopy 7C.jpg

I may have to build an add-on Gents, as I cannot see provision within the building.
WEB Canopy 7D.jpg

The island platform had a wide flat-top canopy, but I am undecided on how best to tackle it..

Two more 4mm laser cut canopy kits arrived yesterday from David Preston. Exactly the same as before, I poured the parts out onto the desk and studied them for a while before deciding on a way of making an island platform double width canopy with some engineering plausibility! The first move was to measure the framework between the legs and cut four of them out of the surplus framework...
WEB Canopy 8B.jpg

This done, I then determined the width of the double canopy when located by the rectangular pegs on the remaining longitudinal framework and removed the surplus with a circular saw. The LH and RH roof parts where paired and glued together with UHU Wood glue and left to harden. The small rectangular bits are the sections that were removed...
WEB Canopy 8.jpg

The roof sections were glued to the longitudinal framework with Evostick. This glue allowed some maneuverability, care being taken not to damage the delicate framework. The framework shown in the first image was then glued between the longitudinal's as shown below...
WEB Canopy 8C.jpg

The unused locating slots between the roof lights were covered with masking tape as were the tops of the roof sections....
WEB Canopy 9.jpg

The valances were attached with Evostik. End valances were cut from surplus valance as I needed slightly deeper ones than those supplied in the kit....
WEB Canopy 9B.jpg

Both canopies are almost the same height. The rectangular support legs had to be lengthened to achieve this .....

The intimidation of tipping the contents of a kit onto the workbench! Begin at the beginning and go on until you come to the end; then stop. I built this Lasercut Models good shed in 7mm scale last time, not that I can find it on WT, so here goes in 4mm...

WEB Building 3B.jpg

Part 1 of the instructions completed. If you get past assembling the steps without throwing the towel in and taking up deep sea diving, you should have no problems from here on...
WEB Building 4.jpg

Nearly forgot to chamfer the top row of bricks. I'm still clumsy working in 4mm.....

Phase 2 covering the main part of the building completed. Lower walls were again shamferred, this time before gluing to the inner walls. Notwithstanding the steps, this building has been a delight to assemble...WEB Building 5.jpg

I was in a rush to get photos before the sun set and so all excess glue was removed afterwards....
WEB Building 5B.jpg

I rubbed PVA wood glue into the corner joints otherwise they would look dearly in need of pointing....
WEB Building 5C.jpg

A shot into the light showing the PVA has 'pointed' all the brick courses on the corners...

Well Larry, if that's being clumsy what are you like when you're on the ball ?

Looks like a nice kit of parts too.

Not a lot to show for two hours at the workbench building a canopy. I first did it last year on a 7mm scale goods shed,
WEB Goods shed 9.jpg

.........So it was replicated this morning on the 4mm shed...
WEB Building valance 2.jpg

Masking tape was stuck down the centre of the two rook section before formers were made and attached. They are useful for holding the roof while it is sprayed...

Finished. I inserted a row of Plastikard end-on bricks under the overhanging ledges to 'support' the side-on bricks.....
WEB Building 7.jpg

The canopy over the loading bay will be attached after painting, hence the sag.....
WEB Building 7B.jpg

Guttering was made from 60thou plastikard. Drainpipes are by Ratio. This is another one out of the way...
