GUILDEX at Telford is CANCELLED

Information posted on Guild site this morning. Appears decision was made by Guild Committee even though TIC wanted to continue with their 'wait and see' policy. seems there could possibly be a loss of £23,000 for hall hire paid in advance but negotiations continue regarding the terms of the contract.

Details here (not sure if you need to be a Guild member to view this page)

I reckon there is a majority that would not have gone at any rate, although there is an easing of some lock down rules too many people are taking liberties with it. Just wait for the second spike when half the idiots off Bournemouth beach go down with it in 12 days time !

I know some traders and plenty of punters that were not prepared to go to Telford due to the fact it was moved to the bank holiday weekend let alone a pandemic. But also because they had pre-booked hotels etc. and will be out of pocket.

It's come as a bit of a relief to be honest. More time to finish the layout and make sure it runs well. and for the first time in 20 years I can enjoy a summer with out worrying about getting ready for Telford.

Got to say I am pleased that the management of The Guild has made a decision, OK so it may cost The Guild but at least now visitors, traders and officials can move on.

Whilst the government may say that such events can go-ahead, how many members, traders and Guild Officials would want to be at such an event?

I am glad that the decision was not deferred, as TIC seemed to want.

Col,

These are all the "dregs" that crave their annual jaunt to Ibiza etc. Did you see how much waste/refuse had to be cleared by the local authorities. Disgraceful behaviour of the entitled/don't give a toss brigades.

Probably not appropriate to debate that on this forum, Ian, much as I'd like to. But sadly it's a tiny minority who spoil it for all of us. We've all seen, as you say, that they don't give a toss and have absolutely no concern for the effect of their actions on anyone/everyone else.

I reckon I could find an answer.......

Early exposure to two huge 7mm spring drive systems in Ireland weakened my defences. Once you’d seen stuff like this (pics attached ), 70s Hornby just didn’t cut it, but I finally succumbed to the lure of 32mm and then 36.75 mm at the age of 45 after years of unsatisfying adventures in other scales. I was actually to be an exhibitor at Telford this year but just learned I’m bumped over to Stafford in 21. Right decision I think. Sad though, as I have only started to learn the craft skills of finescale since taking up 7mm and so many people on various fora have encouraged and advised me - would have been good to meet them.

On the plus side for my bank balance, the Finney7 won't be able to coerce me into making the kit stockpile even bigger. :))

As the resident Auntie Wainwright, Chris, I will miss your company.:)) Of course, in the time created by the lock down those clever chaps who do the designing stuff are coming up with a plethora of new and essential productions........ And some old favourites where we have new info and updates which will be incorporated where appropriate.

Now, how many can I do you for?
