Morning Larry good see to a new layout developing and I like your sensible plan to 'keep it simple' ......well for now anyway. Now I know I shouldn't show you this picture in case your tempted to go back to the 'Darkside' but I have just purchased a Dapol 14XX to go with the Auto coach that you resprayed for Andy with is now mine .....The 14XX will become 1427 which ran on the Wrexham Ellesmere Branch 14XX 002 (950x351).jpg

Hope both of you are keep safe in these worrying times and I'm looking forward to the Ruabon 'recreation' develop

Managed to round up all the SL-E188 and E189 Electrofrogs this morning, all different suppliers but through one source ~ Amazon. Nearly all post-free too. So the shed lock-down should end in about ten days time.

All the main turnouts and slips have to be joined together and the lot moved around the baseboard until the 'complex' is in the right place. After that, it's easy.

Larry, have you thought about printing the point template plans off the Peco website, this would give you a head start in having a play about planning ........... apologies if you already knew this, as you know I would be the last person to teach you how to suck an egg

Best regards
Craig.

Good news that you have managed to get hold of the required point work , I said at the start of this lock down that 'panic' buying of Peco Track would be a problem area ......don't Peco understand that their product is an 'essential' commodity during this period of 'Enforced Enjoyment' :D

Larry,

I still miss your model of Greenfield - it perfectly captured my childhood recollections of that station, and of the whole of Greenfield.

index.php

The Whit Monday Parade; village cricket; walks up Chew Valley; Fletcher's papermill with their dark green Scammel Scarabs, night-time railway sounds with an Austerity clanking over the viaduct next to Wisenden's model railway shop and, not by any means least, Road End Cafe's meat and potato pies!

Happy days,
John Isherwood.

Why not try a kit bash using a couple of Ratio (Highley) boxes as the basis?

The windows certainly fit the bill and the finials too. The angle of the barge boards look like they’ll need adjusting, but the guttering and down spouts are fine too.
Wills sheets will provide stability in both brick and ship lap (?) forms, and perhaps the arched cutouts in the kit could serve as handy templates for the windows in the base. If not, Wills provide arched lintels.

Perhaps even the latest Peco/Ratio kit could be pressed into service with replacement windows say from Churchward Models, or maybe a scratch built job using the CM windows?

Don’t think it would take that long, especially as most aren’t going anywhere quickly at the moment.

Hi Jonte, the Ratio is not a good starting point, in anycase I was never enamored with plastic stubby window frames. I could use Precision/Phoenix etched McKenzie & Holland window frames and doors and scratch-build the rest, but I would prefer a whole laser cut kit.

EDIT: In fact I have just placed an order for a laser cut kit. It looks like it will make a good basis and I might just etch replacement McKenzie & Holland window frames as well as build a new 'normal' roof.

Hi Larry

Glad you’ve sourced a laser cut job; I do admire the quality of these new kits.

I think I’m right in saying that the Precision and Churchward Models are one and the same (I purchased a set of LNWR ones with doors, several months ago; think they were only about a fiver!), but if you can etch them yourself, all the better still

I will almost certainly buy a set of Precision/Churchward etched windows and doors as a first move. If the window frames are a different size to those in the signal box kit, then I would etch some. I know a man with a little space 'to let' on his next sheet.

These are the LNWR ones I mentioned, Larry:

I remember the Wynnstay Hotel in Oswestry and it's still going strong. Much of the town does seem to have changed, particularly around the Cambrian Works, Sheds and Station, all old hunting grounds of my ill spent youth.

I agree with Dave Holt, with Greenfield, you really did nail it. I don't know the original Station or area, but the Model never looked like a Model to me.

Good luck with this one Larry, that Building looks like it will work well.

Good morning Mr G, sorry to hear of your point shortage woes, the plans looks good and will certainly give operational play interest, but I seem to remember a certain person saying something to the contrary !, I give you exhibit A M'lud ........

And I quote Mr G from his earlier ramblings in this thread

"This view from the bottom end of the shed puts things into perspective. The wide part is to accommodate Ruabon station goods yard and circulating area in front of the station. I rather like the prototypes arrangement. As folk know, Ruabon also had extensive marshalling sidings and turntable, but my model won't. Instead it will have an utterly simple track plan that will be easy to construct and maintain... Says he!"

So Mr G, what does one have to say for himself now then ????? ;), I can see why you didn't use the Peco bullhead track work now, as there is only left & right hand points available, or should I say unavailable ????

Good luck Larry, stay safe

Craig.

It's coming on well in the planning process Larry.

Sorry to read of your pain my friend, and for that reason I COULD NOT do a LIKE to your picture as I felt it would be in appropriate, but suffice to say that, I'm sure once your sorted, it will soon come together quite quickly.

Keep safe and well both of you.
