Two riveted version minerals with different end doors for the new OO layout awaiting metal buffers ...

Copying real weathering is a far cry from the proprietary 'driven thru' a cow-patch' version, but it does take time. For this reason, I will weather mostly ready-to-run from now on otherwise there will never be any time to build a layout or coaches or........

This 7mm scale building is based on the modular buildings constructed to suit the traffic by the GWR in the late 19th Century...
WEB 7mm buildings 1.jpg

The rear of the building no longer overhangs the back of the platform and is a lot more user friendly now....
WEB 7mm buildings 2.jpg

Built from a laser-cut set of parts, the corner bricks to doors and windows were rounded as per some prototypes. Construction covered on this thread (17th July 2019)...

Funny thing is, I returned to OO gauge thinking either the Hornby or Dapol GW Large Prairies would be on the shelves. But nope, they ain't.

Despite the mileage of blue-route Cambrian and many GWR lines, searching for a modern up-to-date HornBach GWR 2-6-0 and a 'Manor' 4-6-0 turns up nothing. Open goals and split-chassis comes to mind. Thank goodness for the Collett 0-6-0.

Steer clear of the Bachman Manor, Larry.

Bought one off an auction site a couple of years ago - never been used - and ran it in on a circle of track in one direction for an hour. When I came to doing the same in the opposite direction, it jerked and seized up: one of the driving wheels had snapped off the axle.

The seller was good enough to return my money.

I now have a body only, which one day I’m hoping to marry to a Comet chassis. But for now, it remains in storage as I’m contemplating going back in time to the mid to late twenties.

September last year I built some 7mm coal staithes from Intentio laser cut wooden parts. A 4mm set of parts arrived Friday so I set too this afternoon....
WEB 4mm Staithes 1.jpg

No longer working to space constraints, I made up a 4-element set in 4mm....
WEB 4mm Staithes 2.jpg

After gluing in the short uprights, I set the unit up against a straight edge before it set....
WEB 4mm Staithes 3.jpg

I decided to firm it up by adding a horizontal set of sleepers across the top and vertical posts underneath, which in reality would have been concreted into holes...
WEB 4mm Staithes 5.jpg

When set, some sculpturing took place using various course files...

Edited to add that the adhesive used was UHU wood glue from a tube.

I missed out on the Bachmann BR lined-maroon auto trailer, so when a nice surprise arrived today in the shape of a plain maroon trailer, I bit the bullet and lined it out.

Doing the lining should be like falling off a log, but the pen I used for the curve front and back had been well abused lining out platform edges for the past fifteen years. Just noticed I forgot to glue the bell back! The trailer needs weathering now...
WEB Auto coach 1.jpg

I compared this maroon with that adopted by Hornby on their LMS Ivatt 'Duchess' following discussion and it is identical. Things are moving in the right direction then... :)

It is doubtful coaches were cleaned this thoroughly in steam days, yet even here we can see the solebars and underframe are carrying the usual colouring thrown up from rusty rails. However, note the clean bufferbeam and build up of dirt around the bell and other places....

The body was masked off (without dismantling) and the underframe sprayed with my mix of frames-grime in matt cellulose. Then weathering powder was brushed over the solebars and bogies. Brake shoes were picked out out in PPC rusty rails colour. I wanted a relatively clean coach body, so the factory satin finish suffices....WEB Auto trailer 7.jpg

The latest addition to the auto trailer fleet is this one. It is doubtful any Hawksworth's were still running in blood & custard by 1958, so I am using it as 'the one that got away!!' I always respray the bottom half of rtr blood & custard coaches, but this one it is more bleached to represent aged carmine red. The cream coloured interior floor was given a coat of matt GWR brown and a driver added. The underframe was sprayed frames dirt before weathering...

The sun had disappeared by the time this end was shot...

Regarding 'brass' paint, I used Classic Liquid Leaf from the mid 1980's. It is intended for picture frames etc, but the trouble was it lost its lustre in the bottle long before the bottle was half-empty and it was rather expensive to boot. Recent purchases off Amazon showed it was so different that it might as well have been a different product. I have used Phoenix-Precision P984 BRASS on the coach above and it is a good product for door handles and loco whistles.

This is a Hornby 'Hall' that I painted some four years ago. It has one of my etched bufferbeams. Hornby locos are much easier to fit DCC sound into, while the Bachmann 'Hall' is not. Even so, Bachmann has it when it comes to accuracy with daylight behind the outside steam pipes and ejector pipe. The Hornby model fell foul of the 'Railroad' mentality and this seemed to extend to the driving wheels. The large boss would look more at home on some LNER locos...

WEB Hall 1.jpg

A Bachmann repaint with Brassmaster front end conversion. Driving wheel centres much nearer the mark. I have yet to decide which way to go this time around....

Worth having a look at the Citadel range of metallics. They brush really nicely and it is a big range.

Thanks for this Mike. I placed an order soon after seeing your post. Paint brushes have arrived but not the paint yet.

Good to see the progress with the Track coming up Larry, and I bet your pleased with Dapol's Manor announcement yesterday.
