A bit more progress on the signal box today.

The snagging list is getting longer so this actual box will be scrapped and fresh parts cut out. I’ll continue with it here though so I can make sure the rest of the parts fit and look right.

It occurs to me that that signal box is to the design originated by the Gloucester RC&WCo back in the late '70s/early '80s and later taken on by the Railway Signal co at Fazackerley – who then supplied the L&Y among others. There are a lot of the Gloucester built boxes on the older part of the Swindon, Marlborough & Andover Rly. A whole new market opens up...

Wouldn't it be good to model some feet of a signalman doing his daily.

Brick for the fireplace goes all the way up now.

Not long to go and today spent getting show ready.

Before and after sanding. The contrast is gained by engraving the top layer of ply away to expose the middle layer.

Fingers crossed it will fit together....

LNWR Signal Box complete as far as I can go. The paint finish needs to start now before anything else can the done. The chimney, glazing, windows glued in, slates etc.

The windows are not fitted so they’ll fall out if not careful. At least they fell inside the box and not on the never to be found again great lawn.

Mix and match Terraced house kits are finally ready. Based on a WTer's actual house (I don't think he minds), the proportions have been adjusted to half relief 70mm, scale 93mm and front and back scale 268mm.

The modules are double fronted and are a scale 172mm wide. Bricked end walls add 2.5mm each side.

I can customise these to include house names centred between the first floor windows and cut long runs up to 10 house in one piece if required.

Terraced front that I will create other types.

Why are all my buildings made from lumpy, undressed random stone? Not fair. ;)

Love the back of terrace, what size are the sash windows? 3'x5'??

Phil,

Love the terrace. It’s so evocative of the last mile or two into so many town stations. Particularly the backs.

It’s not clear (to me, at least :)) whether you have the internal wall that separates the 2-up & 2-down, and which would provide the visual block to stop one seeing right through.

It might be worth making sure there’s space for it at least. Of course you could go the whole hog and include internal walls and doorways, which adds something if internal lighting is fitted.

I don’t know how easy it would be to add brick pattern to the top few mm of the party walls - that would allow for terraces on a sloping street. Given the roof is rebated in here, perhaps an add-on upside-down “v” with brick pattern. I guess a whole brick-patterned gable wall too?

And chimneys, of course.

Hope the suggestions are helpful & you have a great show,
Simon

Thanks Simon.

Internal walls are represented but I have left to the modeller to put their detailing on the inside such as doors etc. Wouldn’t be difficult to add lights and make room scenes. When I get around to the shop and pub fronted versions, I’m sure some stunningly detailed models will be made.

Gable walls and chimney stacks are available as extras and I like the idea of staggered terraces and will look to update the model with that idea included.

A customer has already asked for a bespoke version pictured below.
