Excavations on the site of London's CrossRail project at Paddington have unearthed relics of the original broad gauge railway.

I wonder if they are going to dig it all up and preserve it

Broad gauge railways would be the business these days. Imagine HS2 in broad gauge, double decker luxury.

What will they end up doing with these relics? Evidently (from the dialogue on the website), construction continues over the site.....

They will record it, perhaps salvage something, and then it'll be dug up or buried again. I'm not entirely sure there's anything particularly spectacular that's been unearthed, to be honest.
